Understanding Wales: Nationalism And Culture, Yen Nguyen, Robin Reeves, Cassius M. Hossfeld, Angelique Karditzas, Bethany Williams, Brittany Hayes, Chelsea Price, Kate Sherwood, Catherine Smith, Roxy Simons

Colonial Academic Alliance Undergraduate Research Journal

In the spring of 2013 ten students from the University of North Carolina Wilmington participated in a study abroad program in Wales attending Swansea University for the semester. As a group, we began examining Welsh culture and identity. Living abroad provided many opportunities to collect data and make observations about Welsh life. Our initial observations pointed to a tension that seemed to exist between Welsh and English cultures. We found this tension noteworthy and decided to examine it more closely through an exploratory research project examining Welsh political and economic history, Welsh culture and Welsh nationalism through participant observation, field …

Assessment Of The Economic Impacts Of Recreational Boating In Virginia, Thomas J. Murray Dec 2012

Assessment Of The Economic Impacts Of Recreational Boating In Virginia, Thomas J. Murray

Reports

Virginia is home to more than 200,000 recreational boats, providing a gateway to marine recreation in Chesapeake Bay and offshore waters. Virginia’s importance to boating access carries with it an expanding economy related to boating and boating related industries.

In addition to the large group of boater-citizens who reside in Virginia, local marine businesses such as marinas also provide access and berthing to many non-locally owned watercraft. In Search Of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge: Teachers' Initial Foray Into Podcasting In Economics, Kathy Swan, Mark J. Hofer

Articles

In this paper, we report on work with eight practicing ninth grade social studies teachers to determine how they chose to integrate podcasting to help their students build on their economic literacy, which includes building both economic concepts and skills. The study is rooted in an interpretivist research paradigm, using the Council for Economic Education's National Voluntary Content Standards in Economics (1997) and Mishra and Koehler's (2006) theory of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) to frame data generation, analysis, and the reporting of results. We found that teachers demonstrated strong technological pedagogical knowledge (TPK) but a lack of technological content …

Global Crisis And Financial Regulations: Who Determines What? Cross-Country Analysis Of China, Germany, Japan, Uk, And Usa, Mart Moora

Colonial Academic Alliance Undergraduate Research Journal

By observing the economies of China, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, the article aims to study whether the economies are genuinely motivated to enhance global financial regulations. Throughout the Great Recession, the G20 nations have repeatedly declared that reforming international financial regulations is a prerequisite for stabilizing the global financial system. However, the reality often proves different, as the competing economies face challenges that contradict the national economic interests. A regulatory race to the bottom via global deregulatory pressures is one of the many examples. Thus, via conducting cross-country analysis, this paper aims to offer a …
