Measuring Walls In Accordance With Arm4 - An Introductory Demonstration, Tony Cunningham

Other Resources

This demonstration involves the measurement of 'traditional' external brick and block cavity walls and internal block partitions. The demonstration is addressed to students taking (Irish) measurement or quantities modules at first year / entry level of quantity surveying related programmes. The worked example has been carried out using traditional handwritten quantity surveying processes on traditional dimension paper. It is acknowledged that this would be carried out using measurement software or on-screen measurement technology in actual practice. The traditional handwritten approach has been retained in order to enable novice students to develop the necessary measurement skills and build confidence through direct …

The Importance Of Place In Public Space Design, Rachel Carr

Blog Archive: River Reflections at the University of Dayton

Don’t get me wrong, the new main branch of the Dayton Metro Library is wonderful. It’s bright, innovative, and inviting. Mostly, it’s well suited for Dayton. This last aspect is something that I hadn’t felt until I visited another city’s new central library in Austin, Texas. It’s easy to see the beauty of the Austin Public Library and want all of its features for the Dayton Public Library without much thought about the important differences between the cities.

Stability Of Equilibria In Quantitative Genetic Models Based On Modified-Gradient Systems, Benjamin J. Ridenhour, Jerry R. Ridenhour Nov 2017

Stability Of Equilibria In Quantitative Genetic Models Based On Modified-Gradient Systems, Benjamin J. Ridenhour, Jerry R. Ridenhour

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications

Motivated by questions in biology, we investigate the stability of equilibria of the dynamical system x′ = P(t)∇f(x) which arise as critical points of f, under the assumption that P(t) is positive semi-definite. It is shown that the condition ∫λ1(P(t)) dt = ∞, where λ1(P(t)) is the smallest eigenvalue of P(t), plays a key role in guaranteeing uniform asymptotic stability and in providing information on the basis of attraction of those equilibria.

A Multi-Paradigm Framework To Assess The Impacts Of Climate Change On End-Use Energy Demand, Roshanak Nateghi, Sayanti Mukherjee Nov 2017

A Multi-Paradigm Framework To Assess The Impacts Of Climate Change On End-Use Energy Demand, Roshanak Nateghi, Sayanti Mukherjee

School of Industrial Engineering Faculty Publications

Projecting the long-term trends in energy demand is an increasingly complex endeavor due to the uncertain emerging changes in factors such as climate and policy. The existing energy-economy paradigms used to characterize the long-term trends in the energy sector do not adequately account for climate variability and change. In this paper, we propose a multi-paradigm framework for estimating the climate sensitivity of end-use energy demand that can easily be integrated with the existing energy-economy models. To illustrate the applicability of our proposed framework, we used the energy demand and climate data in the state of Indiana to train a Bayesian …

On The Time Variation Of Dust Extinction And Gas Absorption For Type Ia Supernovae Observed Through A Nonuniform Interstellar Medium, Xiaosheng Huang, G Aldering, M. Biederman, B. Herger Nov 2017

On The Time Variation Of Dust Extinction And Gas Absorption For Type Ia Supernovae Observed Through A Nonuniform Interstellar Medium, Xiaosheng Huang, G Aldering, M. Biederman, B. Herger

Physics and Astronomy

For Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) observed through a nonuniform interstellar medium (ISM) in its host galaxy, we investigate whether the nonuniformity can cause observable time variations in dust extinction and in gas absorption due to the expansion of the SN photosphere with time. We show that, owing to the steep spectral index of the ISM density power spectrum, sizable density fluctuation amplitudes at the length scale of typical ISM structures () will translate to much smaller fluctuations on the scales of an SN photosphere. Therefore, the typical amplitude of time variation due to a nonuniform ISM, of absorption equivalent …

Kemmet Md, Caqsm, Robert Poetta Md, Ashley Williams Md

Department of Family Medicine

CONTEXT: Financial education is not routinely offered during medical training. Residents and fellows thus have low financial literacy, high debt, and deficits in their financial preparedness. Poor financial literacy contributes to the ever-growing problems of physician stress, job dissatisfaction, burnout, and depression within primary care. It is postulated that implementation of a financial education curriculum for family medicine physicians-in-training will improve their sense of financial well-being and literacy. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine the effects of a formal financial education curriculum on family medicine residents' and fellows' financial well-being and literacy. DESIGN: Solomon four group. PARTICIPANTS: Convenience sample, voluntary …

Off To The Breast Start: Barriers To Exclusive Breastfeeding, Yasmin Mcbryde Nov 2017

Off To The Breast Start: Barriers To Exclusive Breastfeeding, Yasmin Mcbryde

Master's Projects and Capstones

Breastfeeding is a beneficial way to provide food for the healthy growth and development of infants. Breastfeeding also provides many health benefits for mothers. Review of evidence based data indicates that breastfeeding exclusively for 6 months is one of the healthiest and most natural sustenance for a baby. Unfortunately, there are many barriers that prevent mothers from breastfeeding for the recommended duration. The aim of this project is to assess the level of influence that cultural upbringing has on breastfeeding in public. I administered surveys to women and men for data collection. The findings indicate that participants have strong and …

Once More, With Feeling: The 'Tax Cuts And Jobs' Act And The Original Intent Of Subpart F, Reuven S. Avi-Yonah, Nir Fishbien

Law & Economics Working Papers

For the first time since 1913, Congress is considering abandoning the principle that US residents should be subject to tax on all income “from whatever source derived.” Specifically, the House proposed tax reform legislation, the so-called “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act”, would completely exempt from US taxation dividends from “Controlled Foreign Corporations”. This is therefore a good occasion for considering the reasons we tax such dividends in the first place.

In the course of investigating the Stanley Surrey papers at the Harvard Law School Library, we discovered a remarkable report that support the view that the main impetus behind Subpart …

Problems Faced By Construction Of Xiongan New Area Under Climate Change, Zhu Jiang, Ma Zhuguo, Yan Zhongwei, Yuan Xing, Fu Congbin

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)

In the April 1st of 2017, the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council issued a decision that Xiongan New Area (XNA) will be constructed in Hebei Province to evacuate and remit non-capital function of Beijing, and to explore the new model of the regional optimization in densely populated areas. This decision is millennium plan and the great national event. Jing-Jin-Ji Area is located in the semi-arid and semi-humid region, and very sensitive to climate change. In the region, climate change greatly impacts on the water resource and ecological system. In this paper, we analyze the …

U–Pb Dating Of Cave Spar: A New Shallow Crust Landscape Evolution Tool, D. D. Decker, V. J. Ployak, Y. Asmeron, Matthew Lachniet

Geoscience Faculty Research

In carbonate terranes, rocks types that provide apatite are not available to effectively use apatite fission track (AFT) or (U/Th)‐He chronometry (AHe). Here we suggest that calcite cave spar can be an effective chronometer and complimentary to AFT and AHe thermochronometers in carbonate regions such as our study area, the Guadalupe Mountains of southeastern New Mexico, and west Texas. Our measured depth of cave spar deposition is 500 ± 250 m beneath the regional water table, formed at temperatures of 40° to 80°C, indicating that these caves and their spar crystals form near the supercritical CO2‐subcritical CO2 boundary where we …
