Improved Jc Of Mgb2 Superconductor By Ball Milling Using Different Media, Xun Xu, Jung Ho Kim, Wai Kong Yeoh, Yun Zhang, S. X. Dou

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

In this paper, the effects of ball milling B powders using different media, such as acetone, ethanol, and toluene on the superconducting properties of MgB2 have been studied. It was observed that toluene medium was the most effective of them all for enhancing Jc. Jc was estimated to be 5 x 103 A/cm2 at 8 T and 5 K. This value is much higher than that of pure MgB2 that was not ball milled, by a factor of 20. It was considered that ball-milled B using toluene leads to smaller MgB2 grains, …

Adverse reactions to N-acetylcysteine are reported in 6% to 23% of patients who are administered the antidote for treatment of paracetamol poisoning.1 Because paracetamol is the most common pharmaceutical product taken in overdose in many countries, it is essential that attempts be made to prevent or minimize adverse effects caused by N-acetylcysteine. We congratulate Kerr et al2 on their attempt to address this important issue.

Human Visual Perception Of Region Warping Distortions With Different Display And Scene Characteristics, Yang-Wai Chow, Ronald Pose, Matthew Regan, James Phillips Jan 2006

Human Visual Perception Of Region Warping Distortions With Different Display And Scene Characteristics, Yang-Wai Chow, Ronald Pose, Matthew Regan, James Phillips

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper presents human visual perception experiment results for a computer graphics rendering technique introduced in ACSC'05. In order to achieve a good immersive virtual reality experience, it is necessary to have at least 60 frames per second to ensure smooth motion. It is also necessary to have low end-to-end latency so that user interaction does not suffer from perceptible delays in images presented to the eyes. The Address Recalculation Pipeline (ARP) architecture reduces end-to-end latency in immersive Head Mounted Display (HMD) virtual reality systems. By using the ARP in conjunction with priority rendering, different sections of the scene are …

Previous Heat Treatment Inducing Different Plasma Nitriding Behaviors In Martensitic Stainless Steels, C A. Figueroa, F Alvarez, D Rg Mitchell, G A. Collins, K T. Short

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

In this work we report a study of the induced changes in structure and corrosion behavior of martensitic stainless steels nitrided by plasma immersion ion implantation (PI3) at different previous heat treatments. The samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction and glancing angle x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, and potentiodynamic measurements. Depending on the proportion of retained austenite in the unimplanted material, different phase transformations are obtained at lower and intermediate temperatures of nitrogen implantation. At higher temperatures, the great mobility of the chromium yields CrN segregations like spots in random distribution, and the a' -martensite is …
