Internet Politics And Cyberparties: Revolutionizing American Democracy, Kelly Prince Apr 1997

Internet Politics And Cyberparties: Revolutionizing American Democracy, Kelly Prince

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

The American political system is characterized by its two-party structure. However, apparently American faith in the status-quo democracy is faltering. With advancing technology, Americans are gaining greater access to political information, and tools such as the Internet are proving to be useful and versatile in the political arena. The elections of this decade have already been touched by the effects of the Internet, and groups such as the revolutionary cyberparties show promise of reshaping the party politics in this country. The current two-party system is in jeopardy of being replaced by one that is more democratic.

Canada And The Persian Gulf War., Robert. Davis

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis examines Canada's decision to join Operation Desert Storm (the mission initiating the start of the 1991 Persian Gulf War) and the effects of the war and participation in it on Canada. To assist in the study's goal of presenting a clear, comprehensive picture of Canada's involvement in the war, three broad overarching questions are addressed: one, what factors most likely influenced Canada's decision to join Operation Desert Storm; two, what were the effects of Canadian participation in the operation; and three, what were the effects of the Persian Gulf War for Canada. This thesis demonstrates that external and …

Interest Group Influence In The Formulation Of Official Development Assistance Policy: The Canadian Foreign Policy Review Of 1994., Jonathan Matthew Welch. Rankine

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Political, economic, and cultural events in the early 1990s offered a unique opportunity to refocus Canada's Official Development Assistance program. A special joint parliamentary committee reviewing Canadian foreign policy held public hearings across Canada in 1994, to which interest groups made submissions. This study attempts to discover to what degree interest groups influenced development assistance policy in the review. Comparing the substance of these groups' representations against the subsequent Committee's recommendations and Government's policy statements provides an opportunity to make suggestions concerning the relative influence of domestic interests on the formulation of Canadian foreign policy. In addition, by dividing the …

Canadian International Human Rights Policy: The Cases Of Cuba And China., Ross. Strick

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to examine the international human rights policy of Canada with respect to that of the United States. The assumption is made that given the fact that Canada and the United States share many similarities with respect to culture and ideology, the human rights policies which they adopt should also be very similar. Furthermore, given the importance of the United States for Canada in terms of economics and security, it is assumed that Canada will tend to follow the lead of the United States. This paper, therefore, seeks to test these assumptions by using a …
