Occupational Expectations, Future Aspirations, And Adaptation To Formal Education At An Off-Reservation Boarding School For Indian High School Students Of The Northern Plains Region, Donald R. Nugent

Student Work

Little research has been done on the attitudes of American Indian groups toward occupation, education, or occupational mobility. Although anthropologists have studied the American Indian since the early 1940's, they have tended to focus upon tribal groupings studying each as an isolated people bearing the survivals of an aboriginal culture.

The Formative Years Of Onawa, Iowa, 1857-1912, Donald Lloyd Reed

Student Work

The purpose of this narrative was to tell the early history of Onawa, Iowa, from approximately 1857 to 1912. Also, it was hoped that this writing would create a better understanding of the many problems which face a small town as it struggles to grow into a prosperous community. Formation of the community was slow, tedious work started by founding fathers and continued by each following generation. Furthermore, it was hoped that the reader's mind might be stimulated into drawing a comparison between Onawa and any small town which might be known to them.

Charles William Frederick Dumas And The American Revolution (1775-1783 ), Allan J. Buach Jr.

Student Work

No American historian has in recent ears attempted to elucidate the career of Charles William Freerick Dumas during the American Revolution. Diplomatic historians such as Samuel Flagg Demis and John Bassett Hoore have written that C. W. F. Dumas, although an important figure in our diplomatic history, has not yet been given the attention due his service to the United States. It is the purpose of this investigation to examine the Revolutionary service of this relatively unknown American agent.

The Backgrounds And Organization Of The Great Oregon Migration Of 1843, Michael B. Husband Mar 1966

The Backgrounds And Organization Of The Great Oregon Migration Of 1843, Michael B. Husband

Student Work

To define the motives for any human migration is often a formidable, but nevertheless an inspiring an challenging undertaking. This study, therefore, is devoted to a detailed examination of the events which led to the highly significant migration from the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys to the Oregon country in 1843. I shall demonstrate that this, the first home-building immigration to the Pacific Northwest, was not a mere response to leadership, but was stimulated by a deep-seated frontier force based upon the desire of the inhabitants of the western states to better their lot. It was no aimless wandering upon which …

Cuba And Its Good Neighbor: A Microcosm Of Changing United States Policy Toward Latin America, Thomas Lyle Olson

Student Work

The emphais of this study is upon the dichotomy created by the United States trying earnestly to promost the Good Neighbor policy while at the same time exhibiting an unwillingness to allow complete self-determination by promoting a stable and conservative government. The study proceeds only through 1934 because, by that time, although the Good Neighbor policy continued, it had had its effect upon the Republic of Cuba and the relationships between the two countries had been established in a pattern which would continue until the Castro revolution. In addition, after 1934 there is a void in the amount of primary …
