Richmond Renascence: The Virginia Writers' Club Of The 1920'S, Betty Farley Jan 1963

Richmond Renascence: The Virginia Writers' Club Of The 1920'S, Betty Farley

Theses & Honors Papers

This somewhat historical approach to a literary topic, the Virginia Writers' Club and its progeny, a small literary magazine, The Reviewer, is concerned primarily with the presentation of evidence that there was a great deal of writing in Richmond, Virginia, in the early 1920"s. Although insufficient research materials available locally provide scanty basis for a critical analysis of the many works of these writers, I feel that the existence of the club, the motivation for its formation, and the kind of atmosphere that it produced deserve attention.

A Historical Study Of The Role Of The Industrialist In The Tobacco, Flour And Textile Industries Of Virginia 1860-1890, Leslie Winston Smith

Master's Theses

The primary objective of this study is to ascertain what part, if any, the prominent industrialists of Virginia, in the postwar-pretwentieth century period, played in the economic rejuvenation of a state that was ravaged for four years by invaders and defenders alike. Cognizant of the fact that Virginia industry after 1865 was attending a degree of diversification, nonetheless, this study will be limited to three primary industries, namely tobacco, flour and textiles. Even though these three industries, with the possible exception of textiles, were found in most towns and cities throughout the state, only four cities have been selected for …

Oberlin College And World War I, Todd Isao Endo Jan 1963

Oberlin College And World War I, Todd Isao Endo

Honors Papers

Now trying to recover a short part of the past life of Oberlin, I have relied heavily upon The Oberlin Review for factual data and insight into the atmosphere of the times. By spot-checking the other town newspapers, The Oberlin Tribune and The Oberlin News with The Review, I concluded that the review is a reasonably reliable source.

To help construct the skeletal chronology of events I turned two other periodicals besides The Review. These included the Annual Reports of the President and Treasurer, The Oberlin College Alumni Magazine, and The Oberlin College Bulletin. These contained such valuable information as …

A History Of The Latter-Day Saint Settlement Of Oakley, Idaho, Wayne R. Boothe Jan 1963

A History Of The Latter-Day Saint Settlement Of Oakley, Idaho, Wayne R. Boothe

Theses and Dissertations

Oakley is located in southern Idaho in the Goose Creek Valley, an area traversed by trappers and explorers who named the streams and left accounts of their experiences and travels. It was a rendezvous for Indians who went there to gather pine nuts and get wild game for their winter's meat.

An emigration trail was located south of Oakley, where thousands wended their way to California. Emigrants going to Oregon from the East branched off this trail at the City of Rocks and came down Birch Creek to the Rock Creek Stage Station, southeast of the present town of Twin …
