A Comparison Of Mission Programs Used In The Three Language Training Missions Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Rawn Arthur Wallgren
Theses and Dissertations
Since the instigation of the first language training mission in December, 1961, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been vitally interested in the language instruction of its missionaries. As the number of missionaries called to foreign missions increased, the need for more facilities and instruction grew rapidly. During the week of January 18, 1969, Elder Spencer W. Kimball, Chairman of the Church Missionary Committee, announced expansion of the language training mission program that would go into effect on February 8 of that same year. Languages would not only be taught at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, but …

A Longitudinal Study On The Effects Of Stopping Out, Robert Dean Smith
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Inquiries have been made by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education and the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare to determine how colleges and universities could meet the financial crisis now being faced. One of the recommendations made by both agencies as a result of their investigations was that curriculum planners at these institutions provide students with opportunities to have off-campus experiences, preferably in their chosen career areas, before they are graduated to determine whether they want to pursue their studies in that area or reorient themselves to other options. These planned stopouts, they suggested, would curtail drifting …

Mark Twain's Study Of The Effects Of Slavery And Its Relationship To Training, Sharon Faye Nielson
Mark Twain's Study Of The Effects Of Slavery And Its Relationship To Training, Sharon Faye Nielson
All Master's Theses
This paper presents a study of Mark Twain's treatment of slavery, especially in relation to his theory of training. In his novels Huckleberry Finn, Puddn'head Wilson, The Prince and the Pauper, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court Twain portrays the effects of slavery and training on the personality of the slave and the slaveholder. Twain deals largely with the psychological effects of slavery, which tend to dehumanize both slave and slaveholder, deeply and permanently marking their personalities.

There has been no attempt made to evaluate the University's use of these media.

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
A 1965 status study of vocational Education in Utah sought the opinions of state educators and the genera l citizenry. Two major conclusions from that study follow:
The present day school system is not adequately meeting the needs of young people. It serves well the 20 percent who may complete college and some others, but it is woefully short of meeting the needs of nearly 80 percent of the young people of this country. This conclusion is supported by the responses of school directors throughout the country, school district superintendents in Utah, and the school board members and parents in …

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The schools of the San Juan Union High School District, of which La Sierra High School is a part, have not operated under a common plan for the orientation of new teachers. It was the judgment of the investigator that there should be such a district plan. As a basis for establishing such a plan, La Sierra's program of orientation was evaluated by the teachers at La Sierra who had been through the program and by principals of certain selected schools in comparable school districts in California. The recommendation of these two sampled groups then were incorporated as a part …

An Analysis Of The Development And Use Of Objectives For The Seminary Teachers In The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, John Paul Fugal
Theses and Dissertations
The literature on educational problems and procedures gives considerable emphasis to objectives. Sometimes called aims, goals, or values, the objectives have been variously formulated according to the philosophy and environment of their authors. Great variation is found in the many codes of objectives which have existed and which now are used in education.
In examining the code of general objectives which has been published and circulated throughout the Latter-day Saint Seminary System since 1943, the writer was of the opinion that these objectives were not fully used by the seminary teachers and that they may not be those really desired …
