Leaders’ efforts to sustain a competency advantage are tightly connected to their company’s ability to implement technology innovation. Property management allows decision making and team-leading processes to unfold new shapes again and again. However, little research has examined these dynamics. This study examines the relationship between leadership styles and property management firm performance in the digital era. We focus on two leadership styles: Transactional Leadership and Transformational Leadership and propose that digitalization will moderate the relationship between different leadership styles and property management effectiveness. Breakthrough technologies and ever-increasing customer demands are paving the way for new entrants to disrupt the traditional management industry. With their capacious resources, industry incumbents have mitigated these emergent forces by integrating digital capabilities into their arsenal of services. Without the capacity of market leaders, small and medium-sized business consultants are struggling to compete effectively. To fill this research gap, this study strove to develop a practical framework to help small- to medium-sized business consultants act more purposefully amidst growing competitive pressures.
