Emergence Agitation is a frequent complication in the pediatric postoperative population; with up to 80% incidence (Stamper, Hawks, Taicher, Bonta & Brandon, 2014). These patients will present with crying, overexcitement, thrashing, agitation and is seen within the first 30 minutes of emergence of general anesthesia (Mohkamkar, Farhoudie, Alam-Sahebpour, Mousavi, Khani & Shamomhammadi, 2014). Dexmedetomidine, a selective alpha 2 agonist, reduces norepinephrine output, initiates firing of inhibitory neurons such as the gama aminobutric acid system and reduces release of substance P and other catecholamines. Background. The nursing workforce does not reflect the population served. Minorities remain underrepresented in nursing and nursing leadership despite efforts to close the diversity gap.

A 319-bed hospital on the Florida Gulf coast revised their Bladder Care Bundle policy in September 2020. The document provided an algorithm to be followed to determine if intermittent urinary catheterization is warranted rather than an indwelling catheter to relieve urinary retention. Concurrently, this change included the introduction of a new product, Hollister’s VaPro Touch-Free Hydrophilic Intermittent Catheter which is considerably different from the traditional straight intermittent catheter previously utilized by the hospital. The United States Army began standing up Security Force Assistance Brigades (SFAB) in February 2018. The Brigade Medical Team (BMT) is an 11-person, interdisciplinary Army National Guard team. National Guard Soldiers only have one weekend per month and two weeks of annual training per year to develop/maintain cultural competence. The researcher investigated the efficacy of the Cross-Cultural Competence Trainer (3CT) V2 course to develop and maintain cultural competency in BMT personnel. Objective: The purpose of this study was to obtain an understanding of nurse behaviors that promote trust and quality nursing care as perceived by oncology patients with totally implantable vascular access devices (TIVAD).

Methods: An explanatory sequential mixed-method design was used to answer the study questions. This design was comprised of two phases: 1) a quantitative online survey of oncology patients with TIVADs followed by; 2) qualitative interviews using purposively selected patients from the survey sample.

The purpose of this dissertation was to explore the strength of the relationship between unavoidable Hospital Acquired Pressure Injury (HAPI) and increased risk of one-year mortality for patients age 55 and older who were admitted to a hospital from 2015 to 2018. A quantitative, retrospective case-control study was designed to compare demographics, comorbid conditions, pressure injury risk, and living situation of those patients that developed unavoidable HAPI and hospitalized adults with similar physiological burdens that remained injury-free. Patients with cancer experience metabolic changes such as hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, and glycemic variability; collectively termed malglycemia. Glycemic variability, defined as fluctuations in glucose, is a marker of metabolic instability. Higher glycemic variability is associated with adverse health outcomes in the general population and in those with diabetes. Little is known about glycemic variability in patients with cancer, especially those with solid tumor malignancies. Glycemic variability is associated with increased infection, shorter periods of remission, and higher mortality in patients with hematological cancer.
