Employee Perceptions Of Effective Training Strategies, Stephen Lindsay Satterfield

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The following study was undertaken because there was a need to establish whether training information at a local guarantor was relevant to employees and clients. Utilizing transformative learning theory, the purpose of this case study was to explore what the guarantor's employees and management require for new account advisors by conducting open-ended interviews with the guarantor's employees. The guarantor's director secured collections contracts and a long-term enrollment advising contract with a new online university. For the guarantor to have trained account advisors, managers must know what kind of training is necessary. Secondly, the university enrollment is growing, and that could …

Nurse Practitioners' Experiences With Role Transition: Supporting The Learning Curve Through Preceptorship, Viktoriya Y. Pleshkan Jan 2018

Nurse Practitioners' Experiences With Role Transition: Supporting The Learning Curve Through Preceptorship, Viktoriya Y. Pleshkan

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The nurse practitioner (NP) role transition is difficult and ill-supported before and after graduation. Although preceptorships are essential in supporting a NP's role transition, there is a paucity of data on student and novice NPs' experiences with their role transition and how it is supported through preceptorships. The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to understand and describe the meaning of NPs' role transition experiences while in a preceptorship before and after graduation. Schlossberg's transition theory and the cognitive apprenticeship models were used to guide the exploration of concepts of role transition and preceptorship. One face-to-face, 3 Skype, and …

Change In The Organization Socialization Of The United States Border Patrol's Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy: A Supervisor's Perspective, Vic M. Manjarrez

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

This study examines the role of a changed organizational socialization process on supervisory adaptation. The research study is motivated by the central question: how do supervisors adapt in their role as supervisors when the initial organizational socialization process has changed. Literature on socialization in policing has focused almost exclusively on long-term job satisfaction, while literature on police supervisory adaptation centers on leadership approaches. Previous research on police socialization clearly indicates the process is a series of stages filled with "rite of passages". There is no distinction between the socialization of a non-supervisor officer versus a supervisory officer. The literature is …

For most children, school is a key setting for them to engage in friendships and develop social interactions. This study investigated eight special education teachers' perspectives on the communication needs of children with Down syndrome within the school context, as well as the teachers' knowledge and resources needed to facilitate their students' social interactions. The participants reported having little knowledge …

Evaluating Virtual Reality-Based Training Programs For Mine Rescue Brigades In New South Wales (Australia), Shiva Pedram Jan 2018

Evaluating Virtual Reality-Based Training Programs For Mine Rescue Brigades In New South Wales (Australia), Shiva Pedram

University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 2017+

Most safety critical industries such as mining, rail or aviation aim to comply with Highly Reliable Organisation (HRO) standards. HROs have been defined as organisations that operate in hazardous conditions but manage to maintain almost error-free levels of performance. Accidents do not occur in isolation, they are usually the consequence of a chain of events ranging from the organisational level to unsafe acts of individual employees. Hence, it is of prime importance to design and deliver effective training programs that can not only expose workers to workplace hazards but also, and more importantly, ensure that this knowledge is adequately mobilised …
