Use Of High-Fidelity Simulation Training For New Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit Nurses, Bryan Boling Jan 2016

Use Of High-Fidelity Simulation Training For New Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit Nurses, Bryan Boling

DNP Projects

Critical care nursing is one of the most challenging, high-stress fields in healthcare. This is especially true for nurses in the highly specialized environment of the cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CTICU). The experience level of nurses in critical care is positively linked with patient outcomes; however, with older nurses retiring or moving away from the bedside and younger nurses increasingly moving into advanced practice or management and leadership roles it is becoming more difficult to maintain a high degree of nursing experience in the ICU. Simulation training has been used to provide safe, effective training, and it is even possible …

Embodying Topeng: Gender, Training And Intercultural Encounters, Tiffany Strawson Jan 2016

Embodying Topeng: Gender, Training And Intercultural Encounters, Tiffany Strawson

Other Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business Theses

This research centres on the Balinese performance tradition known as topeng which translates as Balinese masked dance-drama. In Bali this genre is performed traditionally in spaces reserved for religious ceremonies. The research questions the extent to which, and how, it may be possible for a non-Balinese person to embody a culturally coded, sacred object (the mask) and how a woman is able to make meaning and express herself within a genre which is traditionally the preserve of men. The research has therefore sought to develop an individual and intercultural approach to both the design of new masks and their performance. …

More-Than-Human Knowing, Showing And Sharing In Human/Landscape Fire Relationships, Amanda Edwards Jan 2016

More-Than-Human Knowing, Showing And Sharing In Human/Landscape Fire Relationships, Amanda Edwards

University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016

Focusing on Australians of settler heritage, this PhD shows how an evaluation which adopts and refines a more-than-human conceptual framework can generate deep understandings of human /fire /land relationships with implications for land and fire management, training, policy and academic research.

The research was initially commissioned to evaluate the Hotspots Fire Training Program (Hotspots) which seeks to train landholders in New South Wales in the sustainable management of landscape fire. In commissioning the evaluation, Hotspots staff were seeking to provide funding bodies with substantive evidence that the program achieves its objectives and to identify ways in which the program could …

The Role Of Student Evaluations In Improving The Engineering Teaching Laboratory, Sasha Nikolic Jan 2016

The Role Of Student Evaluations In Improving The Engineering Teaching Laboratory, Sasha Nikolic

University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016

Higher education in Australia is being transformed to focus more on student experience, but within the academic community debate continues as to the suitability and reliability of allowing student opinion to dictate quality systems. Research to date has been inconclusive in providing evidence to justify either side of the debate. Similarly, the focus on understanding if and how student opinion can define and improve quality in the engineering teaching laboratory is limited. This is important within engineering, because as a practicing profession the teaching laboratory is generally regarded as playing an important role in preparing graduates for their future careers. …

Transformational Leadership In The World Of Sales, Dalton R. Barnes Jan 2016

Transformational Leadership In The World Of Sales, Dalton R. Barnes

CMC Senior Theses

It takes a very specific type of person to be successful in sales; this makes recruiting and retaining effective employees a difficult task for companies in this field. Because finding and training these people is such a challenging task, it is in the best interest of companies to invest in training and developing their employees to be successful and avoid burning out. Bass and Riggio (2006) would note that in a field with such a high burnout rate, a transformational sales leader is important because they are generally able to build stronger follower loyalty, commitment, and satisfaction than their non-transformational …

Do The Perceptions Of Supervisory Working Alliance Mediate The Relation Between Perceived Supervisors' Multicultural Competence And Trainees' Multicultural Counseling Self-Efficacy?, Arthur Ritmeester Jan 2016

Do The Perceptions Of Supervisory Working Alliance Mediate The Relation Between Perceived Supervisors' Multicultural Competence And Trainees' Multicultural Counseling Self-Efficacy?, Arthur Ritmeester

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

This study tested whether the relation between supervisory multicultural competence (SMC), as perceived by the supervisee, and multicultural counseling self-efficacy (MCSE) was partially mediated by the supervisory working alliance (SWA). This study was conducted in response to (a) a mismatch in previous research between the operationalization of MCSE and the underlying theorizing, and (b) inconsistent results in previous research about the relation between the SWA and counseling self-efficacy development. Participants were 182 health service psychologist trainees in the United States receiving supervision at the time of data collection.

Evaluation Of Real-Time Adaptive Display Systems In A Pilot Training Environment, Jerred Charles Holt

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

The Air Force (AF) has traditionally utilized a frequency-based approach that relies on after-action review for feedback to train their pilots. The goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of adding real-time adaptive supplemental feedback to this approach. A synthetic task environment was developed to emulate the current AF training platform. Supplemental HUD displays were developed that captured various degrees of expertise at the flight task, thereby serving as a both training and performance aids. Varied presentation schedules for these supplemental displays and triggers for their dynamic behavior were compared and evaluated based on performance, knowledge and workload …

Identification And Examination Of Key Components Of Active Learning, Darrell Scott Kelly Jan 2016

Identification And Examination Of Key Components Of Active Learning, Darrell Scott Kelly

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine key components of active learning. I hypothesized that feedback, accountability, and guided exploration were key components of active learning. I collected survey data from second year medical students (N = 103) in three different active learning interventions: peer instruction (PI), team-based learning (TBL), and problem-based learning (PBL), at six time points. My results did not consistently support my hypotheses. However, I observed a pattern of differences concerning feedback and accountability in the predicted direction in all three interventions. Feedback had a positive effect on professionalism in both PI and PBL, and accountability …

The Imperativeness Of The Inclusion Of Multiple Intelligences In Safety Training, Melissa Diers-Sarasin

Online Theses and Dissertations

Many organizations are increasingly becoming aware that effective safety training is a key element in their success. Employers are now forced to face the challenges of holistically evaluating safety programs to ensure their multigenerational workforce comprehends, utilizes, and values the safety training provided to them. These expectations are brought about by regulations and the need to control expenditures directly related to safety training and performance. Now more than ever, it is imperative that multiple intelligences are incorporated into safety education and training programs. This article examines key elements of multiple intelligences, the significance of their incorporation in safety education and …

Assessment Of Competitive Requirements, Repeated Sprint Paddle Ability And Trainability Of Paddling Performance In Surfers, Oliver Farley Jan 2016

Assessment Of Competitive Requirements, Repeated Sprint Paddle Ability And Trainability Of Paddling Performance In Surfers, Oliver Farley

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

Studies examining the physical demands of surfing, the physiological characteristics of surfers, training techniques and various indices important to surfing performance are limited and characterised by methodological discrepancies. This thesis consists of five studies to assess the competitive requirements, test specific repeat sprint fitness and the trainability of sprint paddling in surfers.

Initially an understanding of surfing movement patterns and a determination of the reliability and validity of custom-made GPS units was established (SurfTraX, Gold Coast, Australia) (Study 1: The validity and inter-unit reliability of custom-made SurfTraX GPS units and use during surfing). Durations, intensities, external loads and velocity …

Writing Centers Across The Curriculum: Reimagining Writing Centers Through Writing Across The Curriculum And Human Resource Management, Adele Leon Jan 2016

Writing Centers Across The Curriculum: Reimagining Writing Centers Through Writing Across The Curriculum And Human Resource Management, Adele Leon

All ETDs from UAB

Current research in Writing across the Curriculum theory and writing center assessment shows concerns for students being able to connect their writing to their disciplines. However, little is being said about connecting writing centers to WAC programs, and less is being said about having writing centers take on the role of a WAC program. This thesis addresses the possibility of the latter, and creating a Writing Centers Across the Curriculum program to better help students across the disciplines connect their writing to their majors. In the creation of a WCAC program, a strong focus on training writing center tutors through …

A Training Program For Non-Chaplain And Volunteer Chaplains Conducting Spiritual Care At Feather River Hospital In Paradise, California, Brad B. Brown Jan 2016

A Training Program For Non-Chaplain And Volunteer Chaplains Conducting Spiritual Care At Feather River Hospital In Paradise, California, Brad B. Brown

Professional Dissertations DMin

Problem

Responsibilities of chaplain services at Feather River Hospital (FRH) primarily include completing its mission of whole-person care by providing spiritual and emotional support to the patients and staff. However, the challenge of meeting this goal historically is due to insufficient funding to hire adequate staff chaplains to provide this service. Per conversation with fellow chaplains of other hospitals, this same staffing challenge in meeting the spiritual and emotional component of whole-person care is consistent. However, there is a potential solution. Staff and community volunteers with a spiritual bent have shown interest in filling this gap of spiritual and emotional …

Making And Training Disciples Of Christ Using The Pursuit Of "Life... To The Full" As The Catalyst For Mission In High Springs Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Mark Swaisgood

Professional Dissertations DMin

Task

In the Spring of 2012, the High Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church had about 29% of its membership "active in ministry," meaning these members were involved in "ministry activities outside of Sabbath morning" or they served in "leadership responsibilities during Sabbath school and worship time" (i.e. I did not consider mere attendance as "active in ministry"). Approximately 9% of the membership was "missionally engaged," meaning they were participating in activities through "service to others outside of our denominational affiliation" (I considered serving people within our church membership as "active in ministry" not "missionally engaged"). The goal of this project was …
