Cognitive Responses And Message Acceptance: An Evaluation Of Alternative Functional Relationships., Stuart. Brockbank Jan 1992

Cognitive Responses And Message Acceptance: An Evaluation Of Alternative Functional Relationships., Stuart. Brockbank

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

An investigation was conducted across two product classes and alternate message appeals to determine the best functional relationship between message acceptance and four independent cognitive responses: support argument, counterargument, source bolstering, and source derogation. A multi-variate regression analysis was employed to compare various linear and non-linear models. The four dependent cognitive structure measures used were attitude toward the brand, and the cognitive, conative, and affective components of the tricomponent attitude model. The results indicate that in general, linear models best explain message acceptance as a function of cognitive response. This investigation is an extension to current literature and has implications …

The Perceived And Actual Difficulties Of Hispanic Refugees In Finding Work In Windsor (Ontario)., Jean-Holger. Kroes Jan 1992

The Perceived And Actual Difficulties Of Hispanic Refugees In Finding Work In Windsor (Ontario)., Jean-Holger. Kroes

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The present study surveys Hispanic refugee status seekers in Windsor, Ontario in regard to their work and education history as well as their views on events surrounding their job search to determine the perceived and actual difficulties in securing work. Discrimination, English language knowledge and restrictive work permits are the problems defined by the refugees themselves. Ignorance of the Canadian hiring and employment process, lack of knowledge on how the restrictive work permits can be overcome and the implications of welfare payments on the mental state of the Hispanics are discussed as the actual difficulties. Recommendations include better education of …

Management Initiatives And The Implementation Of Just-In-Time Manufacturing By Canadian Firms, Ron D. Mclachlin Jan 1992

Management Initiatives And The Implementation Of Just-In-Time Manufacturing By Canadian Firms, Ron D. Mclachlin

Digitized Theses

Numerous benefits have been claimed for firms which implement just-in-time approaches to manufacturing.;A fair number of Western firms have been successful at such implementations, obtaining dramatic performance improvements. However, many other firms which could benefit appear to be addressing only a few features rather than the overall philosophy and system. It is not clear what differentiates one firm's choices and results from those of another; the general research problem is to understand these differences.;The associated research questions are: (1) What explains how well firms are able to implement elements of JIT? and (2) What explains the choices by firms to …

Configuration, Coordination, Learning And Foreign Market Entry: A Study Of Canadian Software Companies Entering The United States, Neil Alben Abramson Jan 1992

Configuration, Coordination, Learning And Foreign Market Entry: A Study Of Canadian Software Companies Entering The United States, Neil Alben Abramson

Digitized Theses

This thesis examined strategic factors that affect the performance of Canadian software companies in the United States market. More specifically, this research tested a model suggesting that performance was significantly influenced by three variables. These variables were the interdependent nature of company working relationships, the configuration or entry strategy used for entry, and the learning of companies about the market over time.;The research was undertaken to identify practical applications that could help companies in the Canadian software industry improve their performance in the United States. This industry is a growth industry both in Canada and throughout the world. Practical applications …

Horizontal Selling Alliances: The Effect Of Organizational Distance And Mutual Trust On Dyadic Working Relationships, J Brock Smith Jan 1992

Horizontal Selling Alliances: The Effect Of Organizational Distance And Mutual Trust On Dyadic Working Relationships, J Brock Smith

Digitized Theses

In response to complex and uncertain environments, marketers are forming horizontal selling alliances in which sales representatives from two or more independent sales forces work cooperatively as partners to provide joint customer solutions. This study examined how organizational differences, perceived trustworthiness, and trusting behaviours affect the effectiveness of selling partner working relationships. Drawing on social exchange theory and the IMP Interaction Approach, conceptual and structural equation research models were developed. These were operationalized using relationship-level and aggregated individual-level indicators. Hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares and dyadic, self-report data collected from computer sales representatives.;Organizational differences, particularly differences in reputations …

Individual Reactions To Computing Technology: A Social Cognitive Theory Perspective, Deborah R. Compeau Jan 1992

Individual Reactions To Computing Technology: A Social Cognitive Theory Perspective, Deborah R. Compeau

Digitized Theses

Understanding how and why individuals use computers within their professional lives has been a longstanding goal of Information Systems research. In order to provide further insights into this phenomenon, from the perspective of Social Cognitive Theory (Bandura, 1986), two related studies were undertaken. In the first study, a model of individual behaviour based on Social Cognitive Theory was formulated and tested through a survey of approximately 1000 Canadian managers and professionals. The results of the study provide substantial support for the Social Cognitive Theory perspective. In particular, the findings highlight the important role of self-efficacy, individuals' beliefs that they can …

Information Integration And Performance: A Field Study And Structural Equations Analysis, James E. Wyse Jan 1992

Information Integration And Performance: A Field Study And Structural Equations Analysis, James E. Wyse

Digitized Theses

The deployment of information systems technology (IST) is often justified on the presumption that improved information delivery and content will positively impact individual performance and, consequently, organizational performance. The integration of information systems undertaken by many organizations as an IST deployment tactic is based on such a presumption. This presumed relationship has not been empirically established nor has it been the subject of significant theoretical development. This investigation sought to address these deficiencies.;To provide a theoretical basis for the research, a model of information integration was constructed. This model is conceptually grounded in the work on critical success factors (CSFs). …

Partnering Attractiveness In Buyer-Seller Relationships, Herbert Fraser Mackenzie Jan 1992

Partnering Attractiveness In Buyer-Seller Relationships, Herbert Fraser Mackenzie

Digitized Theses

Partnering has been described as one of the most profound changes to hit the American industrial marketplace in five decades. From a marketing perspective, it is critical to determine what makes a supplier attractive to a customer for a partnering relationship, before the customer decides to establish such relationships with its vendors. Suppliers who are winners in this new environment will have a strategic advantage over their competition; those who lose could seriously restrict their possibility of future growth.;Drawing on organizational buying behavior theory and channel relationship theory, a comprehensive causal model of antecedent constructs to partnering attractiveness was developed. …

Business Strategy, Information Systems Strategy, And Strategic Fit: Measurement And Performance Impacts, Yolande E. Chan Jan 1992

Business Strategy, Information Systems Strategy, And Strategic Fit: Measurement And Performance Impacts, Yolande E. Chan

Digitized Theses

Although there has been much discussion of the strategic role of information systems, there have been few attempts to capture or quantify the extent to which information systems complement company strategy and impact performance. This dissertation research develops, validates, and applies measurement instruments and accompanying procedures to assess information systems (IS) strategy and IS strategic fit (the synergy between business strategy and IS strategy).;The research is based on Venkatraman's work. He developed and tested an approach for measuring realized business unit strategy. This dissertation extends his work, applying it to the assessment of IS strategy and IS strategic fit.;The research …
