This paper explores some issues at the intersection of regulation and religion, as they apply to food. It reports on a work in progress examining the regulations and values that affect choices at food and drink outlets in an inner suburban street in Sydney.

It is part of a larger projected study of food as a central social, material and religious concern. In it we are exploring questions around community relations in a culturally and religiously diverse society. Initiation is a religious practice that is generally understood as involving socialization and acceptance into a religious community, but American Neopaganism, with its emphasis on individualism and autonomy, has evolved a meaning that challenges that simple understanding. American Neopagan communities are marketplaces of ideas that are comprised of groups and solo practitioners, all in interaction in which they might conduct main holidays together, but not necessarily work together in what they would consider more “serious” practices in which they receive the spirit communications with which they develop the ideas. Within Christian circles, the ‘calling’ of the vocational minister is frequently abused and misunderstood and muddled by the lack of Scriptural evidence for the overused term. The focus of this research is to observe first, the current cultural climate surrounding the nature of calling, and second, to compare this understanding to the authoritative Scriptural teaching on the subject in both the Old and New Testaments. This analysis reveals that the “internal” vocational call to minister is absent from the Bible and must be replaced by an alternative the Scripture directly teaches. The current research uncovers problems with a religious organisation's Intellectual Capital
(IC), and the approaches organisational leaders take to overcome these problems. It is situated as an issue
of complexity, in which there are varying levels in both problem and approach. This is outlined according
to David Snowden's Cyne¯n model. It is suggested that complex IC problems require complex IC
approaches, while simple problems can make use of simple approaches. Two case studies with churches in
the American South were used. Focus groups with these churches identi¯ed IC assets of strategic importance,

 Background: Previous research has identified numerous factors to explain why students have difficulty learning
about evolution. Some of these factors include a student’s background (including their religion and major of study),
the type of evolution instruction, and the inclusion of the nature of science (NOS) instruction. Sparse but more recent
work has investigated the impact of a religious-scientist role model to help dampen perceptions of conflict between
evolutionary science and worldview. We had two research goals: (1) to identify which of these factors influence

Amidst growing literature regarding the importance of spirituality within
counseling and counselor education, little is known of the experiences of
doctoral students regarding their religious and spiritual backgrounds while
matriculating through their doctoral program. This research explored the
experiences of four researcher-participant counselor education doctoral
students from diverse religious and spiritual backgrounds. This exploration
deepened their understanding of the role their religious and spiritual identities
played in their thoughts, emotions, challenges, and strengths of their
experiences. A phenomenological autoethnography method was used for this
