Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center (Walnut Avenue) is a nonprofit agency that provides services to women, children, and families in Santa Cruz County. Programs include domestic violence services, early childhood education, and youth engagement. To provide these services, Walnut Avenue depends heavily on restricted funds, but this can be an unstable revenue stream. If an unexpected cost arises, restricted funds designated to a specific program cannot be reappropriated to alleviate the expense. Female Secondary School Stipend Programs In Bangladesh And Pakistan: What Can We Learn From South Asia’S Ccts?, Julia Gibbons

While many developing countries have reported gender gaps in education, Bangladesh has made remarkable progress and terminated the gender gap in secondary school enrollment through its national Female Stipend Program (FSP) in the 1990s. Conditional Cash Transfer programs (CCTs) like the FSP have become a popular development policy prescription, but the literature on CCTs in South Asia is surprisingly limited. A similar program to the FSP, the Female Secondary School Stipend, was implemented in the Punjab province of Pakistan in 2004 and had modest success, increasing secondary school enrollment for girls by 10%. This policy proposal makes the case for opening Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs) and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) — both well-established investment structures — to renewable energy investment. MLPs and, more recently, REITs have a proven track record for promoting oil, gas, and other traditional energy sources. When extended to renewable energy projects these tools will help promote growth, move renewables closer to subsidy independence, and vastly broaden the base of investors in America’s energy economy.

Solar, wind, and other renewable energy technologies have the potential to mitigate climate change, secure America’s energy independence, and create millions of green jobs. In the absence of a price on carbon emissions, however, these long-term benefits will not be realized without near-term policy support for renewables. This Article assesses the efficiency of federal tax incentives for renewables and proposes policy reform to more cost-effectively promote renewable energy through capital markets and crowdfunding.

IP laws can be used as a tool for promoting human flourishing and human development if entrepreneurial women in developing countries, such as Ghana, can better use IP rights to advance and promote their enterprises. For example, while driving from Accra to Cape Coast, I observed several small stalls on the side of the road with names on them. Clearly small enterprises, the stalls had no obvious branding aside from the handwritten names of the women who appeared to be the proprietors. Although organized activities (OAs) have been established as important contexts of development, limited work has examined the role of OAs across the high school transition in buffering adolescents' social adjustment by providing opportunities for visibility and peer affiliation. The transition to high school is characterized by numerous changes and OAs may provide an important setting for establishing and maintaining peer relationships during this tumultuous time. This study included 151 8th grade U.S. students (58% male) who were assessed across the transition to high school (spring of 8th and 9th grade).
