This short paper uses experiences as a design practitioner, an activist, and a 2nd generation immigrant as a means to understand and define “good work”, and how that work can assist in navigating one’s identity. The “good work” is self-defined by the author as labor produced in solidarity with communities in need of support. Through the obsession with work, albeit “good work”, one can ultimately lose sight of their own identity through assimilation. Bihog Tribe (Agta) has different beliefs and cultural practices in childbearing. They have their traditional medicines, ceremonies, coping mechanisms, and food eaten during the pregnancy period, labor, and postpartum. The study used an ethnographic type of research in qualitative approach. Interview protocol was utilized to gather information about their culture and beliefs. The subjects consisted of three mothers and a midwife, with a total of four that were purposively selected. The study was conducted in Sitio Mapatong, Brgy. Sto. Tomas, Tagkawayan, Quezon. This paper explores the impact of grade contracts upon student engagement and confidence in classes. The co-researchers designed a grade contract based upon those described in the literature by Danielewicz & Elbow (2009) and Inoue (2014), and integrating departmental learning outcomes. The contracts were used in the co-researchers’ Spring 2018, Fall 2018, and Spring 2019 First-Year Writing (ENG101 and ENG102) and upper division English (ENG345 and ENG405) courses. The Millennium Development Goals created incentives for donors and governments to favor quick impact over addressing complex social systems. As a result, the MDG period saw little sustained effort to open up access to those productive assets, and that presents a challenge for the SDGs.

Based upon ethnographic research with Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (DMSC), a grass-roots sex workers organization in Sonagachhi, the iconic red light district in Kolkata, India, this paper explores the relationship between police raids and human rights violation. It especially focuses on the nature of violence initiated by the construction of “corrupt” evidence to justify a raid, which in this case is not solely a state initiative; the police usually work in tandem with other rescue missions such as the International Justice mission (IJM). This project seeks to provide historical context for the modern revival of avowed socialism in America through an examination of Eugene V. Debs leadership of American Socialism from 1895 to 1921. The paper argues that Debs’ leadership of American socialism was unsuccessful because he left the critical task of convincing the American people that the ideology of Socialism is correct and fundamentally different from traditionalism, capitalism, and progressivism, incomplete. Reform Socialism did not distinguish itself from local progressivism, and revolutionary Socialism adopted violent, opportunistic methods which prevented broad support.
