This handwritten document orders Lieutenant John w. Turner to proceed to New York in pursuit of Private Charles R. Wheeler, a deserter from Lt. Cl. J's Artillery. Turner is ordered to work with local authorities to apprehend Wheeler and return him to the proper military authorities. The orders are signed by J. Bankhead Magruder.

It was reported in De Hollander that Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte was preaching in Pella and that First Reformed Church called Rev. J. H. Donner of Leyden to come to Pella and be their pastor. A subscription list was being circulated for the building of an academy. "May the Reverend's visit there result in general and particular blessings."

A letter of Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte to Rev. J. H. Donner of Leiden, the Netherlands who is trying to convince Donner to accept the call to the First Reformed Church of Pella. The Reformed people in Pella have largely left the congregation of Hendrik P. Scholte who did not unite with the Dutch Reformed Church. Van Raalte speaks of Scholte in very negative terms but praises the Pella settlement and the people of the First Reformed Church. Van Raalte sees Pella as a very promising field of labor.

Van Raalte Papers: 1850-1859

Ben Van Raalte, a son of Albertus and Christina Van Raalte, wrote his father saying that he had not yet received a letter from him although his mother had. Ben reported that the hired hand had run off so he had not been able to do anything about the fence. After he finishes his work in the morning, he strips wood until 4.30 p.m. and then attends evening school. Derk brings his father up-to-date on farm matters.

Van Raalte Papers: 1850-1859

At a meeting of the consistory of the First Reformed Church, Elder J. Labots again presided because it was mentioned that the pastor, Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte, had departed for Pella, Iowa. G. Wakker served as the clerk. The case of a fraudulent land deal was brought to the consistory for judgment. The consistory delivered its opinion and told the gentlemen involved to settle their differences. The hour was late and time to end the meeting.

Van Raalte Papers: 1850-1859

At a consistory meeting of the First Reformed Church at which Elder J. Labots presided because the pastor, Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte, was absent with notice. Gerrit Wakker served as clerk. The consistory decided that 75 cents a week was sufficient for the care of an orphan child by a family of the church. The foster parents asked for $1.25 a week. The carpenters who built the church are asking for interest on the amount owed them by the congregation. Wakker was assigned the task of catechising in the absence of the pastor.
