Inspiration is a strange beast. Where does it come from? Often when I hear someone sing a song, I am inspired by it and want to learn it. It speaks to me somehow. Just as often, though, I’ll look through a book and find something that looks glorious that I want to try. Other times inspiration comes from a conversation, a joke, or some other shared experience. A collaborative concert featuring the Andrews University Symphony Orchestra, Chris Wild, conductor, and the Andrews University Singers and Chorale, Stephen Zork, conductor, as they present "Easter Gloria." The concert will begin with choruses selected from the Easter portions of Handel's "Messiah", followed by the Overture from Giuseppe Verdi's "Nabucco", and conclude with John Rutter’s Gloria.

The Andrews University Symphony Orchestra (together with the University Singers and vocal soloists Sara Emerson, Julie Karpenko Reid, Charles Reid, and Stephen Zork), aim to celebrate the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven with a performance of his Symphony No.9 on May 1. The concert will open with a complementary world premiere composition by Andrews University graduate student Kaija Perry.

Normally our annual Vespers Concert is part of the Andrews University Music Festival, but due to the pandemic we were unable to welcome our high school students to campus this year. But we will still continue our vespers tradition with a variety of wonderful sacred music, including some lively early American hymn tunes (Rhapsody on American Shaped Note Melodies by James Curnow and A Sacred Suite by Brant Karrick), sturdy hymns of old (God of Our Fathers by Thomas Knox and Be Thou My Vision by Travis Cross), and newer songs of praise (Joy Revisited by Frank Ticheli and Prologue …
