While working for Crosswalk.com, a website that features biblically-based content to Christians, Lauren Sanchez, a 2011 alumna of Gardner-Webb University was given an opportunity to write about her Christian college experience. An English major with a creative writing emphasis, Sanchez lives in Richmond, Va., and has worked as an editor for BibleStudyTools.com and as a temporary content publishing associate for Crosswalk.com, both owned by Salem Web Network, an Internet provider of Christian content and online streaming.

College ESL Writers: Applied Grammar and Composing Strategies for Success is designed as a comprehensive grammar and writing etext for high intermediate and advanced level non-native speakers of English. We open the text with a discussion on the sentence and then break it down into its elemental components, before reconstructing them into effective sentences with paragraphs and larger academic assignments. Following that, we provide instruction in paragraph and essay writing with several opportunities to both review the fundamentals as well as to demonstrate mastery and move on to more challenging assignments.

The Molloy Student Literary Magazine, sponsored by Molloy College’s Office of Student Affairs, is devoted to publishing the best previously unpublished works of prose, poetry, drama, literary review, criticism, and other literary genres, that the Molloy student community has to offer. The journal welcomes submissions, for possible publication, from currently enrolled Molloy students at all levels. All submitted work will undergo a review process initiated by the Managing Editor prior to a decision being made regarding publication of said work. Given sufficient content, The Molloy Student Literary Magazine is published twice annually in Spring and Fall.

Through the Master of Arts in English online program at Gardner-Webb University, Nickie Crowe of Ferndale, Wash., is taking steps to make her lifelong aspirations come true. “I always thought I’d get a degree in English and go to work reading for a publishing company, or I could write a novel, perhaps an action adventure with a romantic undercurrent,” Crowe shared. “Life has a way of taking us in different directions, and somehow I ended up in Nome, Alaska, working with numbers for more than 10 years.”

Liv LuVisi (’16) of Kuna, Idaho, embraces life’s challenges as opportunities for growth and adventure. Told by her parents that she would have to pay her own way to college, LuVisi concentrated on her studies in high school and participated in extracurricular activities with the purpose of winning scholarships. “I even began competing in pageants to win scholarship money,” she acknowledged.

Stand-up comedy has been around for centuries, making people laugh for generations. Through the years the forms and techniques stand-up comedians use have shifted back and forth. Self-deprecation humor is one of these forms of humor, where the comedian pokes fun at his or herself, and it has recently become more incredibly popular in today’s society. Stand-up comedians like Louis C.K. have risen to newfound popularity by using self-deprecating humor almost completely in their sets.
