Development And Applications Of Thioacids In Peptide Chemistry And Exploration Of Methods Toward The Stereochemical Elucidation And Synthesis Of Virgineone, Kasinath Sana
Wayne State University Dissertations
ABSTRACT
DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATIONS OF THIOACIDS IN PEPTIDE CHEMISTRY AND EXPLORATION OF METHODS TOWARD THE STEREOCHEMICAL ELUCIDATION AND SYNTHESIS OF VIRGINEONE
by
KASINATH SANA
December 2010
Advisor: David Crich
Major: Chemistry
Degree: Doctor of Philosophy
This dissertation describes investigations toward the development of methods for the synthesis of peptidyl thioacids and thioesters, with particular emphasis on applications in peptide chemistry, and the exploration of methods toward the assignment of the relative and absolute configuration of virgineone and its total synthesis.
The first part of chapter one introduces the general characteristics and reactivity of thioacids, and describes their potential for application …
Black And White Women In Blue: A Case Study Of Policewomen, Danielle Marie Teunion-Smith
Black And White Women In Blue: A Case Study Of Policewomen, Danielle Marie Teunion-Smith
Wayne State University Dissertations
This exploratory study examines the policing experiences of fourteen African American and White female police officers using interviews and observations. There is ample research that addresses the ability of women to perform policing duties, but most of the literature presumes that White and African American policewomen are a single aggregate. These ignored societal differences and social realities of black and white policewomen, based on distinctive assigned social positions, histories, images and location, possibly contribute to different perspectives and experiences in law enforcement. These same social realities shape occupational positions, perspectives, perceptions, and treatment within law enforcement organizations. There are broad …
Type Ii Robustness Of The Null Hypothesis Rho = 0 For Non-Normal Distributions, Stephanie Wren
Type Ii Robustness Of The Null Hypothesis Rho = 0 For Non-Normal Distributions, Stephanie Wren
Wayne State University Dissertations
Is the t test statistic for the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient robust to errors of the second kind? This investigation indirectly measured the effects of power through a type 2 error rate robustness study. The results were revealing.
Assessment Of Memory Function And Effort Using The Wechsler Memory Scale - 4th Edition, Justin B. Miller
Assessment Of Memory Function And Effort Using The Wechsler Memory Scale - 4th Edition, Justin B. Miller
Wayne State University Dissertations
Even the most psychometrically sound measures are sensitive to the level of effort put forth by the examinee and their intent. This is especially true for measures of memory functioning that are a common target of negative response bias and withholding effort. The aim of the present study was to develop methods for detecting these behaviors for the current edition of the Wechsler Memory Scale, 4th Edition (WMS-IV) using a community sample of healthy adults coached to simulate traumatic brain injury (TBI) and a sample of bona fide TBI survivors. The primary analytic strategy involved generation of prediction models to …
"Something You Love And Something More Practical": Undergraduate Anthropology Education In The Neoliberal Era, Amy Goldmacher
"Something You Love And Something More Practical": Undergraduate Anthropology Education In The Neoliberal Era, Amy Goldmacher
Wayne State University Dissertations
This ethnographic case study attempts to understand how neoliberalism, which emphasizes education for employment, contradicts, complements, or coexists with the values of the liberal arts discipline of anthropology. Liberal arts education, the broader type of education that anthropology fits into, is called into question in this neoliberal era because its goal is not to train workers but to educate liberally. Historical data show a trend away from liberal arts degrees towards technical and professional degrees over the last thirty years (Fogg, Harrington, and Harrington 2004). Though the most important reason for earning a bachelor's degree cited among college freshman is …
Bullies And Victims In Middle School, Joseph James Zambo
Bullies And Victims In Middle School, Joseph James Zambo
Wayne State University Dissertations
837 students from two suburban middle schools in southeast Michigan participated in this study to assess bully/victim behavior. Sixth and seventh grade students were assessed along a continuum of interpersonal behavior (social information processing, emotion-related regulation, and social skills). The Olweus Bully/Victim measure was used to assess bully/victim tendencies. The school climate measure was used to assess whether student perceptions of their school environment mediated bully/victim outcomes. School climate mediated bully/victim and victim behaviors; bully and bully/victims shared aggressive and hostile social information processing and aggressive behavior. Victims and bully/victims shared worry, frustration and sadness, while bullies did not. Future …
