Strategies Used To Retain Newly Hired Veterinarians, Christina Avila Mar 2024

Strategies Used To Retain Newly Hired Veterinarians, Christina Avila

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Failing to retain new veterinarians can compromise patient care and the sustainability and success of veterinary practices. Employee turnover impacts veterinarian organizations by lowering morale, productivity, and the organization’s bottom line. Grounded in Goleman’s emotional intelligence theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore strategies veterinarian leaders use to retain newly hired veterinarians. The participants comprised five veterinarian leaders from different clinical organizations in the US state of California who effectively used strategies to prevent newly hired veterinarian turnover. Data were collected by conducting semistructured interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Five themes emerged: …

Barriers To The Use Of Injectable Naltrexone In An Outpatient Setting, Heather Schultz Mar 2024

Barriers To The Use Of Injectable Naltrexone In An Outpatient Setting, Heather Schultz

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The opioid epidemic is a public health concern that impacts thousands of individuals across the United States. There was a lack of clear understanding of what leads opioid addicts to decline use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with injectable extended release naltrexone (XR-NTX). The purpose of this quantitative cross-sectional correlational study was to examine the relationships between past XR-NTX status and demographic factors (gender, age, race, education level, time sober in days, and employment status) and the attitudes about encouragement from providers about engaging in MAT, as well as perceptions about MAT in individuals currently in a MAT who chose not …

Comparison By Race/Ethnicity And Social Determinants Of Health In Early Postpartum Maternal Morbidities, Cynthia Joy Garringer Mar 2024

Comparison By Race/Ethnicity And Social Determinants Of Health In Early Postpartum Maternal Morbidities, Cynthia Joy Garringer

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Maternal mortality continues to increase in the United States, despite medical advances. Patients with negative social determinants of health (SDOH) and racial/ethnic minorities are at increased risk for maternal morbidities although most mortality and morbidities found in maternal health could have been prevented. The purpose of this study, guided by the SDOH conceptual mode, was to examine the relationship between the five components of SDOH and early postpartum morbidities among minority racial and ethnic groups. Secondary data (n = 1401) were obtained from a state health department in the Midwest for women who delivered in the year 2022 from one …

Self-Esteem Among Adults With Adhd Symptoms, Dana Richelieu Mar 2024

Self-Esteem Among Adults With Adhd Symptoms, Dana Richelieu

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This study assessed if attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment, ADHD symptoms, social support, gender, coping, and educational attainment predicted self-esteem among adults. It differed from previous research on this topic because it included participants with ADHD symptoms compared to those with formal ADHD diagnoses. Grounded in Leary and Baumeister’s sociometer theory, the study involved using a nonexperimental correlational survey research design to assess this issue. A sample of 272 adult participants living in the United States were recruited. A multiple regression analysis revealed ADHD symptoms, social support, and coping were statistically significant predictors of self-esteem, while ADHD treatment, gender, …

The Experience Of Grief, Coping, And Community In Black Families And Friends Of Homicide Victims, Rachel A. Jenkins Mar 2024

The Experience Of Grief, Coping, And Community In Black Families And Friends Of Homicide Victims, Rachel A. Jenkins

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Black families and friends of homicide victims (BFFHV) are left behind to grieve and cope with the traumatic loss of a loved one to homicide. The evidence reveals a risk of developing emotional and psychological issues for the survivors. The purpose of this study was to explore four phenomena the BFFHV experience: (a) the experience with local law enforcement and the courts during the investigation of the homicide, (b) the experience of grieving over traumatic loss, (c) the experience of coping with traumatic loss, and (d) their current relationship with the community. Heider’s attribution theory was used to guide the …

Changes In Human Resources Function In Higher Education Institutions During A Pandemic, Naterena Anevia Parham-Cofield

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Pandemics have reshaped societies and paved ways for advances in sciences, political systems, technology, medicine, and the economy. However, researchers have not explored how human resources (HR) function changes due to a pandemic in higher education institutions (HEIs) and how managing it contributes to employee performance and employee well-being. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive multiple case study was to explore how HR function changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in different types of HEIs and how managing it contributed to employee performance and employee well-being. The study was grounded in Kotter’s eight-step change management model. Data were collected through …

Environmental Health Assessments For Foodborne Illness Outbreaks In The United States From 2017- 2019, Alyssa Shontel Woods

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Individual cases of foodborne illness can lead to outbreaks that result in severe morbidity and fatality. As the United States’ food scene continues to evolve and diversify, there is a need to consider cultural variations and how they may affect food safety practices. This quantitative study, based on the National Environmental Assessment Reporting System (NEARS) data, grounded in the socio-ecological model, examined the prevalence and factors associated with salmonella outbreaks in ethnic versus non-ethnic food service establishments (FSEs) in the U.S. from 2017 to 2019. The research questions involved understanding the relationship between the primary language spoken, food safety training, …

Knowledge, Attitudes, And Hesitancy To Covid-19 Vaccination Uptake In Nigeria, Dominique U. Mbachie Mar 2024

Knowledge, Attitudes, And Hesitancy To Covid-19 Vaccination Uptake In Nigeria, Dominique U. Mbachie

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Vaccine hesitancy is a major global health problem despite their being historically effective at preventing infectious diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria, polio, rabies, pertussis, measles, and yellow fever. It has significantly hampered herd immunity, with a rate of 67% for COVID-19 globally. Vaccine hesitancy is common in underdeveloped nations like Nigeria. Misinformation and rumors may be the foundation of the lower vaccination rates in impacted African nations, particularly Nigeria. Thus, the Nigerian population has primarily remained unvaccinated or hesitant about COVID-19 vaccination uptake. This qualitative study explored the knowledge and attitudes towards hesitancy regarding COVID-19 vaccination uptake in Nigeria. The …

The Adoption Of Information Technology Use In Small Businesses, Lawrence Nyayowagbian Paye, Sr.

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The research problem was small business operators’ lack of technology adoption and their subsequent lack of success. Specifically, the problem was that it was unknown what role, if any, the lack of IT has on the adoption by small business operators within the Houston, Texas, business community. The purpose of this qualitative, single case study with embedded units was to understand the internal and sociopsychological aspects of small-business owners’ decision-making models regarding technology adoption in the greater Houston, Texas area. The technology acceptance model provided a framework to explain and identify factors on internal beliefs, attitudes, and intentions of technology …

Rehabilitation Counselor Interventions On Parental-Disability Acceptance, James Samuel Rothrock

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Rehabilitation counselors work with families to assist in transitioning adolescents with intellectual disabilities (ID) from school to adult services. Currently, there is no evidence base for rehabilitation counselors to conceptualize and promote disability acceptance in parents. The purpose of this research was to identify interventions used by rehabilitation counselors with parents at various levels of disability acceptance. The research questions focused on what experiences rehabilitation counselors have had coordinating services with parents of adolescents with ID experiencing various degrees of acceptance and how do they understand and intervene with parental acceptance? The theoretical foundations girding the formation and interpretation of …
