Relationships between the groundwaters of the Nevada Test Site, Ash Meadows, Pahranagat, and Death Valley have been studied by many people over many years. Using hydrogeochemical data from these areas (sampled and analyzed by the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies) hydrologic subbasins were classified on the basis of trace element concentrations and compare these to previous classification systems. In addition, previously suggested flow relationships were examined on the basis of trace element concentrations, in particular those elements which are thought to behave conservatively in oxidizing environments. The purpose of the paper is to determine whether employee behaviors or non-employee behaviors have a more significant effect on health inspection grades given by the Southern Nevada Health District. As foodborne illness outbreaks continue to rise, discovering whether the violations stem from employee behaviors or from items not related to employee behavior is essential. The results will be useful for both industry and academics in helping to establish a means for understanding where violations occur within food establishments; 205 restaurant health inspections were collected with grades other than 'A'. As a concierge supervisor at a five-star hotel in South Korea, I was exposed to a concept from my superiors that a higher employee's tone of voice may increase customer attitudes. In the United States, tone of voice training was also found at a pizza pub, located in Illinois. The study identifies the causal relationship between the tone of voice and customer satisfaction, by an experiment method. PCB exposure has been associated with a reduction in circulating thyroid hormones via several different mechanisms. While thyroid hormones can influence many physiological endpoints in adults, precise concentrations during critical periods of gestation are crucial to normal development. Maternal consumption of PCB contaminated fish has been associated with developmental problems in animals and humans. Alterations of thyroid hormones is postulated to be one possible source of the developmental latencies associated with PCB exposure. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between organizational climate and job satisfaction in the Clark County School District (Las Vegas, Nevada); The data were collected from teachers randomly selected from urban middle schools in this district. There were 19 schools involved in the study, with 15 teachers selected from each school to respond to two instruments. The Organizational Climate Description Questionnaire---Revised Secondary (OCDQ-RS) and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) were sent to 285 teachers, of which 197 were returned (70%). Accurately estimating the amount of time and effort required to complete a software development or maintenance project has proven problematic for business. A wealth of literature exists exploring each of the methods for estimating software development, but very little is devoted to understanding how project characteristics relate to estimation accuracy. This research examines expert estimation, the most widely used estimation technique, to determine the relationship between software project characteristics and estimation accuracy. Implications of the findings for research and practice are discussed.

School refusal behavior has been researched and discussed within psychological and educational communities for over a century, and family environment has been found to influence such behavior. Specifically, differences have been found with respect to the function of youth school refusal behavior and levels of familial independence, cohesion, and conflict. Parenting styles have also been found to influence the behavior of youth. Authoritative parenting is associated with children who perform well scholastically and exhibit few internalizing or externalizing behaviors. The primary objective of this study was to examine the relationship between brand loyalty and financial performance of Las Vegas hotels. This study also investigated the impact of the age of a property and development costs on financial performance. The study used convenience sampling collecting data from a total of 315 visitors who currently stayed at the selected 12 hotels in Las Vegas during the survey period. This study investigates the relationship between customer service quality and restaurant revenue in a casino. A recent search (August 2005) showed over 19,000 citations in one database on the subject of customer service quality. However, no studies specific to the casino industry were found. This study looked at three geographic locations of a gaming-centric casino company; The results showed that customers the casino environments used for this study view friendly/helpful staff and shorter wait times as significant. This study empirically investigates the relationship between firm-wise financial factors and firm performance in the hospitality industry from 2000 to 2004 using panel data regression. After a literature review of firm-wise financial factors and their impact on performance in the literature, unit-effect and time-effect linear models were proposed and examined in both the restaurant and hotel sectors with different firm performance measures used as the dependent variable (i.e., Proxy Q, Sharpe ratio, and Treynor ratio). This study is an examination of the conscious motives involved with using email communication over face-to-face communication in post-dissolutional communication between former romantic partners. This project also answered specific questions regarding the nature of post-dissolutional communication. Data collected from 173 undergraduate students revealed that the ability to plan messages within an email is a conscious motive of using email communication that is not perceived in face-to-face communication, whereas the ability to save-face and avoid topics are not. Additionally, emoticons are sparingly used in post-dissolutional email communication, yet those participants who reported to use emoticons are also concerned with saving face. …

The Pine Valley Volcanic Field in southwestern Utah consists of at least 24 mafic lava flows and 10 vents. Eruptions have spanned the past 2.4 m.y. The youngest eruptions at the Snow Canyon and Diamond Valley cones occurred between 1 and 20 ka. Lava flows range in composition from basalt to andesite, and include both alkaline and subalkaline rocks throughout the field. Trace element abundances for the youngest lavas show both oceanic island basalt (OIB) and mid-oceanic ridge basalt (MORB) components in their source. Sr and Nd isotopic ratios exhibit evolved values, spanning a large range from epsilon Nd of …

The present study explored changes in patients' psychological well-being and relationship adjustment at three- and six-months after either Lap-Band or Gastric Bypass Surgery. Sixty-eight women completed the battery, which consisted of standardized questionnaires of self-esteem, body-image, psychological symptomatology, and assertiveness, as well as marital and sexual functioning, prior to surgery and then at the two follow-ups. Also included was the assessment of patient expectations of relationship change and the pilot Weight-Related Relationship Adjustment Questionnaires (WRRAQ's). First Responders such as firefighters who experience disasters and observe traumatic events may be at risk for generalized stress resulting from the type of work they do. Studies suggest that the more a person is subjected to traumatic incidents, the more they are at risk. This study assessed the relationship between time on the job and the levels of compassion fatigue and job burnout in firefighters. This research project examines how different types of sibling relationships, that is, full siblings, half siblings and stepsiblings, develop within remarried families. The study focuses on three types of sibling solidarity: functional (i.e., instrumental help and assistance); associational (i.e., frequency of contact); and affectual (i.e., emotional closeness). Due to increased competition in the restaurant industry, employers need to offer more than monetary compensation to attract quality employees. Offering these non-economic benefits, or internal services, can aid in keeping employees satisfied and committed to their organizations. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between internal service components and organizational commitment. Data was collected from three fine-dining restaurants in Las Vegas, Nevada. The original hypotheses were not supported by the research results. Current research suggested a relationship between alcohol availability and problems, including suicide, and car accidents. However, the relationship between alcohol availability and alcohol related hospital admissions, such as acute intoxication and liver damage, has not been widely explored. Measuring alcohol availability by alcohol outlet density and using data for alcohol related hospital admissions in the city of Chicago, a Poisson regression analysis determined that neighborhoods with a higher percentage of African-Americans, higher poverty level, and a greater density of alcohol outlets had a greater number of alcohol related hospital admissions than other neighborhoods. This study investigates the relationship between employee turnover and perceived service quality in casino restaurants. The restaurants were buffets, steakhouses, and coffee shops in casinos in three geographic locations. The study uses both cross-sectional and time-series data in a linkage model. It then analyzes the nature of this relationship on both a concurrent and consecutive periods over ten months. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA with Scheffe Post-Hoc tests, Pearson's product moment correlations. Measurement of working memory span typically involves tasks designed to introduce stimuli to the unique slave systems. It is widely accepted that these isolated measurements indicate, at a relatively simple level, the span of the given working memory system. This study hypothesizes that separate working memory systems can be combined to enhance span length.
