Determination Of Alkylbenzene Sulfonates In Water By Using Phase Extraction And Vapor-Phase Esterification Gas Chromatography, Parviz Eivazi Jan 1981

Determination Of Alkylbenzene Sulfonates In Water By Using Phase Extraction And Vapor-Phase Esterification Gas Chromatography, Parviz Eivazi

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonates (LAS) are an important class of anionic surfactants used as detergents for both industrial and domestic applications. LAS are released to the environment from waste water treatment, leaking septic tanks, and run off. LAS compounds are biologically reactive and have been found to have estrogenic properties. Despite the common occurrence of these compounds they are difficult to analyze in water and waste water. Colorimetric assay such as EPA 425.1 is simple to perform, but are not specific for LAS. Reversed phase liquid chromatography has been utilized for the analysis of these compounds but this method does not …

Comparative Analysis Of Selected Variables From Theory Z With The Traditional Public School Bureaucracy, Larry Ronald Moses Jan 1981

Comparative Analysis Of Selected Variables From Theory Z With The Traditional Public School Bureaucracy, Larry Ronald Moses

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Purpose. The purpose of the study was to seek to identify the nature of facilitators and barriers to the implementation of Theory Z in public school systems; Study Procedure. This study compared two profiles of management activity using a common set of variables derived from an analysis of Theory Z as devised by William Ouchi. An item-by-item analysis was done in an effort to determine what facilitators and barriers, if any, exist in relation to the implementation of Theory Z. After analyzing each item, it was determined if the theoretical hypothesis as stated was or was not supported. The procedures …

Administrative Response To Unsatisfactory Faculty Performance At Selected Western Community Colleges, Adele Cereghino Koot Jan 1981

Administrative Response To Unsatisfactory Faculty Performance At Selected Western Community Colleges, Adele Cereghino Koot

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

This research analyzed administrative response to unsatisfactory faculty performance at 158 Western public community colleges. Participating administrators completed a questionnaire which described nine personnel situations involving unsatisfactory faculty performance. The situations differed as to the length of employment, tenure status, racial background, and political influence of the faculty member; Chi square analysis was used to analyze responses to the nine personnel situations based upon seven institutional variables determined from the questionnaire. Participants were also asked to enclose a copy of their current personnel policy manual. Seventy-six documents were received; Results were as follows: (1) A very narrow range of strategies …

The Effects Of A Role Model Intervention Program On The Attitudes Of Junior High School Students Towards Mathematics And Sex-Role Orientation, Linda Fritz Havins

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Bureau of Labor Statistics information indicated 55 percent of all women in the labor force in 1980 were employed in traditional clerical and service occupations. The limited participation of women in certain sectors of the labor force represented a great loss of human potential, particularly in the case of academically talented women. This exploratory study focused on two potential barriers that may keep capable women from realizing their full potential: sex-role orientation and attitudes toward mathematics course-taKing Another area of focus determined what effect stability factors had on the population under study and how stability might affect future studies. A …
