Structure Property Performance Of Ti3c2 Mxene/Polyelectrolyte Hybrids For Electronic And Electromagnetic Applications, Farivash Gholamirad
Structure Property Performance Of Ti3c2 Mxene/Polyelectrolyte Hybrids For Electronic And Electromagnetic Applications, Farivash Gholamirad
Theses and Dissertations
Hybrid materials based on transition metal carbide MXene (Ti3C2Tx) nanosheets have great potential for electronic, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, and environmental applications due to the unique combination of considerable electrical conductivity of 4000 to 15000 S.cm-1, abundant surface functional groups (OH, O, F, Cl), and suitable mechanical properties. However, the performance of final products depends not only on the properties of constituent components but also on the morphology of the assembly. The strong repulsive electrical double layer forces among MXene nanosheets make control over their assembly morphology and final properties challenging. To address this challenge, this dissertation focuses on applying …

Determinants Of Democratic Regression: The Case Of Tunisia, Bassant Ahmed
Determinants Of Democratic Regression: The Case Of Tunisia, Bassant Ahmed
Theses and Dissertations
On the 25th of July, 2021, the Tunisian president Kais Saied dissolved the cabinet and froze the parliament. These decisions were the first among a series of ensuing measures which curtailed the progression of the nascent Tunisian democracy. This thesis aims to unfold the causes underlying Tunisia’s current democratic regression. It finds that the interplay between institutional, economic, regional and international factors represented an immense challenge to Tunisian democracy. By situating theories of democratic backsliding in the context of the Arab region, the thesis argues that institutional lacunas, military professionalism, expansion of corruption networks and dynamics of regional rivalry have …
Comparison Of Statistical Methods For Modeling Count Data With An Application To Length Of Hospital Stay, Gustavo A. Fernandez
Comparison Of Statistical Methods For Modeling Count Data With An Application To Length Of Hospital Stay, Gustavo A. Fernandez
Theses and Dissertations
Hospital length of stay (LOS) is a key indicator of hospital care management efficiency, cost of care, and hospital planning. Therefore, understanding hospital LOS variability is always an important healthcare focus. Hospital LOS data are count data, with discrete and nonnegative values, typically right-skewed, and often exhibiting excessive zeros. Numerous studies have been conducted to model hospital LOS to identify significant predictors contributing to its variability. Many researchers have used linear regression with or without logarithmic transformation of the outcome variable LOS, or logistic regression on a dichotomized LOS. These regression methods usually violate models’ assumptions and are subject …
Developmental Regression Analysis And Investigation Of Genotype Correlations In Individuals With Classic Rett Syndrome, Aubrey Lynn Rose
Developmental Regression Analysis And Investigation Of Genotype Correlations In Individuals With Classic Rett Syndrome, Aubrey Lynn Rose
Theses and Dissertations
Rett syndrome (RTT) is a neurodevelopmental disorder impacting 1 in 10,000 females worldwide, making it one of the most common causes of complex disability in girls. RTT is caused by pathogenic variants in the MECP2 gene and is characterized by developmental regression, stereotypical hand movements, and an abnormal gait. Despite consistency in the presence of these core features, a wide range of features and varying severity can be observed in girls with RTT. Similarly, the particular type of MECP2 variant present also differs between patients. Previous studies have assessed correlations between genotype and phenotype in patients with RTT. While past …
Examining The Impact Of Logistics On Military Strength Among East Asian Nations Using Data Envelopment Analysis, Meaghan E. Crandell
Examining The Impact Of Logistics On Military Strength Among East Asian Nations Using Data Envelopment Analysis, Meaghan E. Crandell
Theses and Dissertations
The current narrative in logistics revolves around modernization and the rapid development and deployment of capabilities, which is a sentiment echoed across the Air Force and the DoD alike. However, the combination of intangible and tangible aspects of logistics can make it challenging to find a foundational place to start the process. The purpose of this study is to evaluate logistical factors to include land area, infrastructure, labor force, and GDP and their relationship to military power. This foundation will provide a baseline of areas for improvement and replication. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and linear regression were leveraged to analyze …
Estimating The Load Rating Of Reinforced Concrete Bridges Without Plans, Edgardo Ruiz
Estimating The Load Rating Of Reinforced Concrete Bridges Without Plans, Edgardo Ruiz
Theses and Dissertations
There are over 250,000 reinforced concrete bridges in the U.S. many of which do not have a load rating on record nor the plans required to perform the calculations. The U.S. Army owns and maintains hundreds of these bridges throughout the U.S. This dissertation describes the development of multiple regression models to estimate the load rating of reinforced concrete bridges. An exploratory data analysis of the 2017 NBI data was performed for the selection of a representative data sample. The data was found to have multiple errors and required significant processing in order to extract a reliable sample for modeling. …

Mc80: Quantifying Effect Of Fleet Health On Sortie Execution In F-16 Fleet, Kyle R. Gladney
Theses and Dissertations
By order of the Secretary of Defense, all of the US Air Force's F-16 units were tasked to improve their fleet health to a Mission Capability (MC) rate of 80 percent, as part of a Department of Defense-wide push to make its Critical Aviation Platforms, and the units that employ them, more ready and lethal. This study uses historical fleet health and sortie execution data captured from LIMS-EV (Weapon System Viewer, 2020) to create a multiple regression model that quantifies the value of increased fleet health, defined as either MC rate or Aircraft Availability (AA) rate, in terms of increasing …
Computational Support For Predicting Requirement Change Volatility In Complex System Design, Phyo Htet Hein
Computational Support For Predicting Requirement Change Volatility In Complex System Design, Phyo Htet Hein
Theses and Dissertations
Requirements play critical role in the design process as objective statements of stakeholders’ expectations. Design process is iterative, and requirements are also constantly changed and updated to reflect stakeholders’ expectations, design changes, regulations, resource limitations, etc. Managing requirement change is one of the most important requirement management tasks. Since requirements are driving factors in product development from initial concept development stage to final production, mismanaged requirement changes can adversely affect project health leading to monetary and time losses. The ability to assess a requirement change and predict its propagation early in the design process will enable engineers to make informed …
Af Corporate Exposure Assessment Strategy: Underlying Cost Behaviors And Visibility, Bradley M. Duncan
Af Corporate Exposure Assessment Strategy: Underlying Cost Behaviors And Visibility, Bradley M. Duncan
Theses and Dissertations
The research conducted in this thesis is an initial attempt to identify the costs associated with occupational exposure assessments within the Air Force. Using cost estimation methodologies, a cost model was created to predict the total costs of occupational hazard assessments focused on air sampling. Data was gathered from bioenvironmental engineering databases and subject matter experts for analysis. The data required extensive curation before running a mixed step-wise regression. The major cost drivers for occupational exposure assessments were identified as the sample time and pre-calibration time for conducting an air sample. The average predicted cost was $183.47 with 80% of …
Semiparametric Regression In The Presence Of Measurement Error, Xiang Li
Semiparametric Regression In The Presence Of Measurement Error, Xiang Li
Theses and Dissertations
The error-in-covariates problem has received great attention among researchers who study semiparametric and nonparametric inference for regression models over the past two decades. Without correcting for the measurement error in covariates, estimators for covariate effect usually contain bias. To account for measurement error, much research have been done in mean regression (Liang et al., 1999; Fuller, 2009; Carroll et al., 2006) and quantile regression (He and Liang, 2000; Hardle et al., 2000; Wei and Carroll, 2009). In contrast, there is little research in mode regression and this motivates us to propose semiparametric methods to address this error-incovariates problem in Chapters …
Comparison Of The Performance Of Simple Linear Regression And Quantile Regression With Non-Normal Data: A Simulation Study, Marjorie Howard
Comparison Of The Performance Of Simple Linear Regression And Quantile Regression With Non-Normal Data: A Simulation Study, Marjorie Howard
Theses and Dissertations
Linear regression is a widely used method for analysis that is well understood across a wide variety of disciplines. In order to use linear regression, a number of assumptions must be met. These assumptions, specifically normality and homoscedasticity of the error distribution can at best be met only approximately with real data. Quantile regression requires fewer assumptions, which offers a potential advantage over linear regression. In this simulation study, we compare the performance of linear (least squares) regression to quantile regression when these assumptions are violated, in order to investigate under what conditions quantile regression becomes the more advantageous method …
Semiparametric Regression Analysis Of Panel Count Data And Interval-Censored Failure Time Data, Bin Yao
Semiparametric Regression Analysis Of Panel Count Data And Interval-Censored Failure Time Data, Bin Yao
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation discusses three important research topics on semiparametric regression analysis of panel count data and interval-censored data. Both types of data arise commonly in real-life studies in many fields such as epidemiology, social science, and medical research. In these studies, subjects are usually examined multiple times at periodical or irregular follow-up examinations. For panel count data, the response variable is the counts of some recurrent events, whose exact occurrence times are usually unknown. For interval-censored data, the response variable is the time to some events of interest, often called survival time or failure time, and the exact response time …
Modeling Hurricane Katrina's Merchantable Timber And Wood Damage In South Mississippi Using Remotely Sensed And Field-Measured Data, Curtis Andrew Collins
Modeling Hurricane Katrina's Merchantable Timber And Wood Damage In South Mississippi Using Remotely Sensed And Field-Measured Data, Curtis Andrew Collins
Theses and Dissertations
Ordinary and weighted least squares multiple linear regression techniques were used to derive 720 models predicting Katrina-induced storm damage in cubic foot volume (outside bark) and green weight tons (outside bark). The large number of models was dictated by the use of three damage classes, three product types, and four forest type model strata. These 36 models were then fit and reported across 10 variable sets and variable set combinations for volume and ton units. Along with large model counts, potential independent variables were created using power transforms and interactions. The basis of these variables was field measured plot data, …

Better Speakers Make More Friends: Predictors Of Social Network Development Among Study-Abroad Students, J Wyatt Brockbank
Theses and Dissertations
Social network development has been studied in the social sciences for the last several decades, but little work has applied social network theory to study-abroad research. This study seeks to quantitatively describe factors that predict social network formation among study-abroad students while in the host countries. Social networks were measured in terms of the number of friends the students made, the number of distinct social groups reported, and the number of friends within those groups. The Study Abroad Social Interaction Questionnaire was compared against these pre-trip factors: intercultural competence, target-language proficiency, prior missionary experience, gender, study-abroad program, neuroticism, extroversion, agreeableness, …

Diversity And Abundance Of The Dark Kangaroo Mouse, Microdipodops Megacephalus, In Communities Of Nocturnal Granivorous Rodents In Western North America, Ashley Sagers Haug
Theses and Dissertations
The dark kangaroo mouse, Microdipodops megacephalus, is a sensitive species in the Great Basin Desert. This thesis explores the structure of desert rodent communities of the Great Basin to better understand M. megacephalus' place in the community and the conditions that promote large and stable populations. To determine community structure, I used nestedness analysis to evaluate 99 communities of nocturnal granivorous rodents. I found that the community structure was non-random, indicating the existence of assembly rules and ecological constraints. I also found that M. megacephalus was the second most vulnerable species in the community. To explore the correlation …
Defining A Model For Tool Consumption Rate On Asphalt Reclamation Machines, Matthew H. Taylor
Defining A Model For Tool Consumption Rate On Asphalt Reclamation Machines, Matthew H. Taylor
Theses and Dissertations
Asphalt and concrete reclamation machines are used to cut roadways when a repair is required. The performance of these machines can affect the quality of road repairs, and cost/profitability for both contractors and governments. We believe that several performance characteristics in reclamation machines are governed by the placement and pattern of cutting picks on the cutter head. Previous studies, focused on mining and excavation applications, have shown strong correlation between placement and wear. The following study employs a screening experiment (observational study) to find significant contributors to tool wear, in applications of asphalt milling or reclamation. We have found that …
Parental Reports Of The Development Of Autism In Their Children: The Relevance Of Regression, Comorbidity, And Genetics In The Detection Ofearly Characteristics, Robin Page Goin
Theses and Dissertations
Early detection of autism plays an important role in enhancing developmental outcomes for affected children. Identifying potential characteristics of the disorder evident during infancy and toddlerhood aids efforts to screen for such symptoms, which may lead to earlier and more accurate diagnoses; however, it is unclear to what extent certain factors encourage or impede early detection. Because parents are responsible for making decisions on behalf of their children based upon their perceptions of children's developmental progression, caregivers were queried in terms of their beliefs about the development of autism characteristics in their children. Participants included 393 caregivers of children with …
