A Constitutive Material Model For Simulating Texture Evolution And Anisotropy Effects In Cold Spray., Creston Michael Giles
A Constitutive Material Model For Simulating Texture Evolution And Anisotropy Effects In Cold Spray., Creston Michael Giles
Theses and Dissertations
Cold spray has seen rapid advancement since its inception and has shown significant potential as a method of additive manufacturing. However, the large plastic deformation and repeated heating/cooling cycles that the material undergoes during the cold spray process can result in gradients in material structure and large residual stresses. The purpose of this study is to extend the existing EMMI material model to include anisotropic material response through the use of orientation distribution functions to predict residual stresses and anisotropy resulting from cold spray and similar additive manufacturing processes. Through the use of a finite element simulation, yield surfaces for …
Molecular Dynamics Of High Temperature Hydrogen Attack, Mike Travis Bodden Connor
Molecular Dynamics Of High Temperature Hydrogen Attack, Mike Travis Bodden Connor
Theses and Dissertations
High temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA) is a damage mechanism that only affects carbon steel and low alloy material. Most of the data regarding HTHA are experimental-driven. Even though this approach has been successful, there are still much more things that the oil and gas industry does not understand about HTHA. The regions that were considered safe (below the Nelson curves) have experienced catastrophic failure. Our research consists of performing Molecular Dynamics (MD) and the Nudge Elastic Band (NEB) calculation of HTHA to better understand the atomistic behavior of this damage mechanism.
Lattice Boltzmann-Based Sharp-Interface Schemes For Conjugate Heat And Mass Transfer And Diffuse-Interface Schemes For Dendritic Growth Modeling, Nanqiao Wang
Theses and Dissertations
Analyses of heat and mass transfer between different materials and phases are essential in numerous fundamental scientific problems and practical engineering applications, such as thermal and chemical transport in porous media, design of heat exchangers, dendritic growth during solidification, and thermal/mechanical analysis of additive manufacturing processes. In the numerical simulation, interface treatment can be further divided into sharp interface schemes and diffuse interface schemes according to the morphological features of the interface. This work focuses on the following subjects through computational studies: (1) critical evaluation of the various sharp interface schemes in the literature for conjugate heat and mass transfer …
The Development Of A Finite Element Model For Ballistic Impact Predictions, Richard Allen Perkins
The Development Of A Finite Element Model For Ballistic Impact Predictions, Richard Allen Perkins
Theses and Dissertations
Concrete is a widely used product and is an important application throughout industry due to its inexpensive cost and wide range of applications. This work focuses on understanding the behavior of high strength concrete in high strain rate ballistic impact loading scenarios. A finite element analysis was created with the implementation of the Concrete Damage and Plasticity Model 2 (CDPM2) to represent the material behavior. The model’s parameters were calibrated to existing literature and the results were analyzed by a comparison of the impact velocity to residual velocity and a qualitative assessment of the impact crater. The model captured the …
Additive Manufacturing Of Cork, A Cold Spray Technology, Kimberly Kay Dickey
Additive Manufacturing Of Cork, A Cold Spray Technology, Kimberly Kay Dickey
Theses and Dissertations
Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing is a technology capable of mass manufacturing components with complicated geometry and coating substrates in hard-to-reach areas. In addition, cold spray also has the ability of conducting a green manufacturing process, with zero waste of renewable feed material, and zero gas and chemical emission. This paper investigates solely cold spray as an additive manufacturing technology with cork as the natural material. CFD results were used to predict the physical behavior of air and the cork particles. After unsuccessful coatings, final results showed that when moisture is added, cork is successfully cold sprayed, and agglomeration is experienced. …
