A Critical Examination Of The Ethical Philosophy Of Ayn Rand, Virginia Jean Osborn
A Critical Examination Of The Ethical Philosophy Of Ayn Rand, Virginia Jean Osborn
Masters Theses
The central purpose of this paper is to critically examine and to render consistent three major areas of Ayn Rand's ethical philosophy "Objectivism." The three areas under consideration will be the intrinsic good and the basic extrinsic goods of Objectivism, the Objectivist theory of obligation, and the Objectivist position concerning happiness.
The task of analyzing these three areas of Objectivism will involve, first, a description of the position under consideration, second, an analysis of the meaning of the position, and third, an analysis of the internal consistency and/or truth of the position under consideration. This analysis shall be used in …
Seasonal Food Habits Of European Wild Hogs (Sus Scrofa) In The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Charles D. Scott
Seasonal Food Habits Of European Wild Hogs (Sus Scrofa) In The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Charles D. Scott
Masters Theses
This study was conducted on the Tennessee side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from the fall of 1971 to the spring of 1973. Seasonal food habits information of the European wild hog (Sus scrofa) was obtained by the analyses of stomach contents.
Hogs ate primarily plant material in all seasons. Grasses (Gramineae) were the most important food item in the spring. Grasses were important to hogs in the summer, as were the fruits of Gaylussacia sp., Vaccinium sp., and Malus sp. Roots were the major food item in the fall and winter months, although the mast …

A Study Of The Factors Affecting The Cost Of Raising Replacement Beef Heifers, Ben David Lee
A Study Of The Factors Affecting The Cost Of Raising Replacement Beef Heifers, Ben David Lee
Masters Theses
This study was conducted to examine the importance of various factors affecting the cost of raising replacement beef heifers under a variety of Tennessee conditions. It involved determining which factors were of the greatest importance and how these factors differed in determining the cost involved in raising a replacement.
The data for this study were taken from available records on the herds at seven of the University of Tennessee Experiment Stations. They were derived from personal interviews with the superintendents of the stations involved, and from Tennessee market reports published by the U.S.D.A. A four year period, 1969-1972, was studied. …
Communication Patterns Of 100 Tennessee Farm Supply Dealers, Merle R. Menegay
Communication Patterns Of 100 Tennessee Farm Supply Dealers, Merle R. Menegay
Masters Theses
In the present study data from a personal interview survey of 100 farm supply dealers in 15 Tennessee counties were analyzed. Systematic "judgment" sampling was used to select the counties in which all available dealers were interviewed. The objectives of the study were: (1) to determine the social and business characteristics of farm supply dealers, (2) to determine the communication patterns between the farm dealers and their farmer-customers, and (3) to determine the sources of information and advice used by the farm dealers.
Farm supply dealers refer to those managing dealerships that sell feel, seed, chemicals, machinery, and/or farm related …
Demographic Characteristics Of Cottontail Rabbit (Sylvilagus Floridanus) Populations On Enclosed Areas Of Natural Habitat, James Rosser Brady
Demographic Characteristics Of Cottontail Rabbit (Sylvilagus Floridanus) Populations On Enclosed Areas Of Natural Habitat, James Rosser Brady
Masters Theses
Cottontail rabbit populations were studied on three beagle field trial enclosures through the fall and winter, 1972-73. Rabbits were captured in wooden box traps during four, 2-week trapping periods. Captured animals were marked with eartags and tail dyes. Stocking of rabbits occurred on all three study areas and all introduced rabbits were marked to distinguish them from native rabbits.
Sex ratios of both native and stocked rabbits were essentially 50:50 on all study areas. Overlapping of aging criteria in fall and winter cottontails prevented any analysis of cottontail population age structures. The above also prevented analysis of weight trends throughout …
An Evaluation Of Yellow-Poplar Samaras By Radiography, Russell Alfred Cox
An Evaluation Of Yellow-Poplar Samaras By Radiography, Russell Alfred Cox
Masters Theses
Control-pollinated samaras from 25 clones in a yellow-poplar breeding orchard at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, were subjected to radiograph and germination analysis. A high correlation was found between filled samaras identified from radiographs and samaras that germinated. Significant differences were observed among clones used as females for percentage filled samaras; no such differences were present among pollen parents. Viability tended to be higher when clones were cross-pollinated than when the same clones were open-pollinated.
Analysis of 62 crosses and their reciprocals indicated significant difference between the two, thus, precluding a partial diallel analysis for viability and indicating a strong …

A Direct Measurement Of The Ratio Of The Reaction Cross Sections For Two-Photon And Three-Photon Positron Annihilation In Aluminum And Silver, Robert Maurice Heavenrich
Masters Theses
The probability of annihilation of a positron with its antiparticle, an electron, is spin dependent. Since both particles have spin component one -half, there are two possible relative orientations of their spins they can either be aligned (parallel) in the 3S, triplet, state with total spin component │Sz│= ½ n - ½ n = 1 n or they can be opposite (antiparallel) in the 1S; singlet, state with│Sz│= ½ n - ½ n = 0. To conserve energy and angular momentum, annihilation from the triplet state must result in the creation of an odd …
