An Investigation Of The Effect Of High Temperature On The Schumann-Runge Ultraviolet Absorption Continuum Of Oxygen, John Stanton Evans
An Investigation Of The Effect Of High Temperature On The Schumann-Runge Ultraviolet Absorption Continuum Of Oxygen, John Stanton Evans
Masters Theses
A theoretical and experimental investigation of the absorption coefficient of molecular oxygen at high temperature is reported here. The wavelength range covered is in the vacuum ultraviolet region from 1300 A to 1740 A. The theoretical treatment covers all temperatures from 300° to 10,000° K. The experimental investigation was carried out in the temperature range of 4,000° to 10,000° K. All values of the absorption coefficient found apply only to oxygen for which the vibrational degree of freedom is fully excited.
The final results for the high temperature absorption coefficient as a function of temperature and wavelength are listed in …

A Surface Water Treatment System For Rural Homes And Farmsteads, Edward B. Hale
A Surface Water Treatment System For Rural Homes And Farmsteads, Edward B. Hale
Masters Theses
The only objective of research work upon which this thesis is based was to design, construct, and test a water treatment system to utilize surface water sources to meet the demands for rural domestic and farmstead water. The system would provide an adequate supply of potable water for a family of five and maintain sanitary conditions for milking a herd of thirty cows. It is anticipated that the cows could be supplied water for drinking. The daily family needs would be fifty gallons per person or a total of two-hundred-fifty gallons (20). Approximately four-hundred-fifty gallons of water would meet the …

Temperature And Humidity Conditions In Three Types Of Boiler Houses, William Robert Fox
Temperature And Humidity Conditions In Three Types Of Boiler Houses, William Robert Fox
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine, for competitive purposes, the respective temperature and humidity conditions of a Solar, Windowless, and Conventional type broiler house. As previously mentioned, there are many environmental factors, such as light, temperature, humidity, and ventilation which probably could affect the growth of broilers; however, it is commonly thought by poultrymen that temperature and humidity affect the growth of broilers more than the other factors stated. For this reason, those concerned with this research project were of the opinion that temperature and humidity conditions should be studied first. Investigations and studies of the other factors …

The history of the area has been studied, many of the leading characters have been interviewed personally, and a large amount of reading has been done in the records relating ot the events. Although greater emphasis has been placed upon those aspects of the case which were purely local, a number of larger factors contributing to its background and meaning have been presented briefly.
Quantitative Standards For The Implementation Of Qualitative Standards In Student-Teaching Programs, Dan B. Cookie
Quantitative Standards For The Implementation Of Qualitative Standards In Student-Teaching Programs, Dan B. Cookie
Masters Theses
This study was selected because there was evidence that some defensible quantitative standards were needed to implement the desirable practices which would be consistent with the philosophies set forth in the standards of both the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the National Council for Accreditation or Teacher Education. Recognizing that the value or the student teaching experience depends to a large extent on the quality and the quantity of the types of experiences provided during student teaching, and the supervision or the program, the writer has identified two major purposes of the study as follows:
1. To …
Rural Community Development: A Study Of The Relevant Sociological Theories, Ramaswamy Dwarakinath
Rural Community Development: A Study Of The Relevant Sociological Theories, Ramaswamy Dwarakinath
Masters Theses
On account of this incomplete grasp of the concept in different regions and at different levels, and also on account of the lack of its systematic treatment in the theoretical spheres, there is an ever-growing need for examining the contemporary thought and experience and for gaining an integrated understanding of the subject, from time to time.
The focus of the present study is on one aspect of this situation, namely, the apparent paucity of a foundation of sociological theory to the concept of community development. The purpose of this thesis may therefore be stated as "the study of the theoretical …
The Use Of A Flail Type Forage Harvester As A Hay Conditioner, Joshua Joseph Fenn
The Use Of A Flail Type Forage Harvester As A Hay Conditioner, Joshua Joseph Fenn
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to find out whether the flail-type forage harvester can be used as a hay conditioner. If it can be, then the mower and, with suitable modifications, the rake can be eliminated for the hay making process. Also, this machine can be used for the production of ensilage, thus eliminating the need for a separate chopper or forage blower on the farm In this study the performance of the flail-type forage harvester as a hay conditioner was compared with the performances of the smooth roller and fluted roller hay conditioner.

Changes In Milk Proteins Associated With The Growth Of Psychrophilic Bacteria, J. D. Skean
Changes In Milk Proteins Associated With The Growth Of Psychrophilic Bacteria, J. D. Skean
Masters Theses
One of the factors responsible for the loss of initial quality in adequately refrigerated, pasteurized milk and milk products is their widespread contamination with psychrophilic microorganisms. A common characteristic of the members of this taxonomically heterogenous group Is that they grow sufficiently well, though rarely optimally, at refrigeration temperatures to damage severely the organoleptic quality of dairy products in relatively short periods of time. This creates a major problem in modern dairy practice which is magnified as it becomes economically important to lengthen the time interval between production and consumption of dairy foods.
The literature on the relation of psychrophilic …

Productivity Of Huntington, Waynesboro, And Dickson Soils For Corn, Charles R. Graves
Masters Theses
The objectives of the study were outlined to the local agricultural workers before any farmers were contacted. Names of possible cooperators were obtained. When this system proved unfruitful, fields were located by driving through the county. When one of the soil types that had been in corn in 1957 or that might be planted in corn in 1958 was observed the farmer was contacted and his cooperation was solicited.
Tennecetin: A New Antifungal Antibiotic, James Burns
Tennecetin: A New Antifungal Antibiotic, James Burns
Masters Theses
The present investigation is an outgrowth of some speculations we have entertained (and vice versa) for a number of years. These speculations revolved around the general idea of antibiotics -- their discovery, production, uses, and significance.
Despite a keen fascination with the matter, our attempts to build a philosophy of antibiosis suffered from an awkward ignorance of the subject itself. There seemed to be no easy way to remedy this situation. In a field dominated by commercial interests, with a literature too recent and scattered to have been sifted and sorted, the traditional academic tools of learning did not appear, …
