The Use Of Audio-Relaxation Does Not Affect The Basketball Free Throw Of Young College Students, A Gutiérrez-Morones, J Aburto-Corona, M Sánchez-García, J P. Machado-Parra

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

INTRODUCTION: As the pressure of competition increase, the athlete will begin to doubt or feel insecure, generating muscular tension and difficulty in the movement. In sports, especially basketball, relaxation is a key part of fine-skills coordination. For this reason, it is determinate that audio-relaxation can become of paramount importance in sport. PURPOSE: To determine if the basketball free throw is influenced by audio-relaxation in a group of physically active college students. METHODS: Eight physically active, apparently healthy college students (4 male and 4 female) volunteered to participate in this study. The students height was 168.3 ± 8.7cm (range, …

Concurrent And Construct Validity Of Methods To Estimate Fat-Free Mass In Children, Adolescents, And Young Adults, L Correas-Gómez, J R. Alvero-Cruz, E A. Carnero

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

INTRODUCTION: Indirect methodologies are available to estimate fat-free mass (FFM) as a skeletal muscle mass surrogate in field settings at low cost. However, there is a lack of knowledge related with the FMM estimations variability introduced by the available methods and its correlations with performance constructs. The association between repeated measures of FFM by different methodologies and strength tests must provide a valuable construct validity analysis, which allows us to select the best method to assess the functional body composition.

PURPOSE: To analyze validity and agreement between laboratory and field methods to estimate FFM in children, adolescents, and young …

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

INTRODUCTION: Exercising modifies renal function such as decreased kidney circulation and glomerular filtration in healthy conditions. In young and adults microalbuminuria could be induced by strenuous exercise however the effects of maximal and submaximal exercise on microalbuminuria in elderly (≥65 years) are not well known. We evaluated the effect of different intensities of acute exercise on microalbuminuria in elderly.

PURPOSE: We evaluated the effect of different intensities of acute exercise on microalbuminuria in elderly.

METHODS: The study involved 20 subjects, 13 men and 7 women (70 ± 5 years-old); they performed 3 bicycle exercise test a week apart …

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

INTRODUCTION: Physical activity is defined as bodily activity that results in energy expenditure. Exercise refers to physical activity that is structured to meet specific fitness gains. Maintaining a physically active lifestyle has been associated with health outcomes that include benefits to cognitive function. Exercise can increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and other growth factors, stimulate neurogenesis, and improve learning and mental performance. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that most adults engage in a regular exercise regime in order to maintain health and wellbeing. PURPOSE: Apply at UABC Valle Dorado developed Program every last Sunday of …

INTRODUCTION: The lactate is an intermediate metabolic, its production in the skeletal muscle increase during the exercise, principally in anaerobic condition that include oxygen deficiency in the skeletal muscle during the exercise. The lactate is released to systemic blood, where it participate in the Cori cycle, although in the blood, the metabolite can modify the blood’s pH. For the last condition, the human has some mechanism to attenuate the lactate effects on the pH in blood PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was evaluate the effect of the sodium bicarbonate ingestion on the lactate blood levels before and …

Normative Anthropometric And Physical-Function Scores For Costa Rican Older Adults, Cinthya Campos-Salazar, Yamilet Chacón-Araya, Luis C. Solano-Mora, Gilbert Brenes-Camacho, Jose A. Moncada-Jiménez

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

INTRODUCTION: The aging population is becoming significantly large in several countries due to improved health conditions and higher life expectancy. For instance, Costa Rican elderly have 17% less mortality at 90 yr. of age than elderly from high-income countries, and in Costa Rica life expectancy is higher for men than for women. In developed countries such as Spain, a large number of sedentary elderly have been found with elevated body fat percentage, which might impact their overall health and quality of life. Although the international scientific literature is extensive, the physical and functional status of Central American elderly is unknown. …

Low-Intensity Resistance Exercise Training Increases Lower Limb Force In Healthy Retirees, E M. Hernandez-Rojas, M C. Enriquez-Reyna, V M. Fuentes-Roldán

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

INTRODUCTION: Aging is associated with decreasing muscle strength. Older people who have never done resistance work in a gym require gradual training programs to help them increasing confidence on this type of training. The use of low intensity resistance exercise with slow movements and tonic force improvement has been proposed as an effective method to increase muscular strength. There is little literature on the effect of intensity training on 30% of one repetition maximum (RM). PURPOSE: To establish the changes in the strength of upper and lower limb force after participating in a 10 week low-intensity resistance exercise for …
