Development Of A Heavy-Duty Vehicle Chassis Dynamometer Test Route, James Joseph Daley Dec 1998

Development Of A Heavy-Duty Vehicle Chassis Dynamometer Test Route, James Joseph Daley

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

A heavy duty vehicle chassis dynamometer driving route, titled "City-Suburban Heavy Vehicle Route" (CSHVR) was developed. Data for designing the CSHVR were collected using a Campbell Scientific 21x. Procedures were developed to reduce statistically the speed and time data into representative speed vs. time cycles. Criteria for producing the speed vs. time cycles included average vehicle speed, standard deviation of vehicle speed and total cruise time. The speed vs. time cycle was converted into a speed vs. distance route with free acceleration ramps. Using this method, the CSHVR was developed. Testing of the CSHVR was completed using the West Virginia …

Development And Validation Of A Modular Hybrid Electric Vehicle Simulation Model, William Frederick Kellermeyer Iii Dec 1998

Development And Validation Of A Modular Hybrid Electric Vehicle Simulation Model, William Frederick Kellermeyer Iii

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

To attempt to bring rigor and analysis to the design process, accurate simulation programs are crucial. Most hybrid electric vehicle hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) simulation programs are written for very specific component configurations and only allow changes in component sizes. These programs prove helpful only if one designs a component configuration similar to the one already simulated. A modular based program such as the one developed here allows simpler reconfiguration of the components for an accurate simulation of almost any component configuration design. This HEV simulation program allows for simulation of all three types of hybrids, with several engine types …

Determination And Analysis Of Natural Gas Vehicle Tailpipe Emissions Based On Continuous Cvs Measurement, Jingang Fu Dec 1998

Determination And Analysis Of Natural Gas Vehicle Tailpipe Emissions Based On Continuous Cvs Measurement, Jingang Fu

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Code of Federal Regulations Title 40 (CFR-40) specified a formula for calculating constant Dilution Factor (DF) to account for background pollutants in Constant Volume Sampler (CVS) emissions measurement system. However, it is recognized that the DF is dynamically changing due to the CVS mechanism. Based on the continuous measurement data obtained from natural gas vehicle emissions testing, a new approach was used in this study to calculate instantaneous DF of the CVS system during the test cycle. Using the instantaneous DF improves the accuracy of mass emission measurements, especially when the exhaust pollutant concentrations were approaching that in the ambient …

School Bus Crashworthiness, Ganesh R. Panneer Aug 1998

School Bus Crashworthiness, Ganesh R. Panneer

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Numerical simulation of automotive crashes play an important role in reducing the cost and time taken for predicting the results of a collision. Computer simulation of a vehicle requires that the vehicle structure be modeled in a finite element package by discretizing the geometry into a number of elements.;Every day thousands of children travel to school and school related events by bus. Not necessarily all the journeys are short and safely driven. The potential for serious injuries is possible in the event of a crash. The severity of injury in an offset frontal impact is higher than the full frontal …
