The unofficial results are in: 3,797.2275 pounds of food was collected during the October 18 Trick-or-Can/Cans Across America food drive, a cooperative partnership between UMM and the off-campus Morris community. The food was transported Thursday to the Stevens County Food Shelf.

When David C. Johnson became the third chancellor of the University of Minnesota, Morris in 1990, his first home in Morris was a room in Independence Hall, traditionally a student residence hall on the campus. To honor the bond with students that was forged during Johnson’s quarter-long stay at this first residence, UMM will rename the hall in Johnson’s honor as David C. Johnson Independence Hall.

The Jawaahir Dance Company will bring Middle Eastern culture to UMM's Edson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, as a part of the 2006-2007 Campus Activities Council Performing Arts Series. One of only three such dance companies in the U.S., Jawaahir will perform traditional folk and contemporary dances that are a fusion of Arabic and Western elements.

Ray Schultz, associate professor of theater at the University of Minnesota, Morris since 2000, has received a Wilde Award for Theatre Excellence from the Detroit Area's GLBT newspaper Between the Lines. The award was for Best Actor in a Drama for his performance last summer in "Take Me Out" at Performance Network in Ann Arbor, Mich.
