Examining Middle Eastern Influences On Jazz In The 1950s And 1960s, Sopon Suwannakit Dec 2023

Examining Middle Eastern Influences On Jazz In The 1950s And 1960s, Sopon Suwannakit

Dissertations

During the 1950s and 1960s, amidst the backdrop of the Cold War, the influences of Middle Eastern music on jazz became more pronounced. In a strategic move, the U.S. State Department dispatched jazz musicians to the Middle East to promote the genre. This initiative inadvertently led these ambassadors of jazz to bring back and incorporate Middle Eastern musical elements into their craft. Today, the echoes of the Middle East are prominently heard in jazz, evident in melodic structures, rhythms, instruments, and beyond. Yet, despite its profound impact, the Middle Eastern music influence remains underacknowledged in jazz circles. This research delves …

Development Of Nursing Clinical Judgment Using Lasater’S Clinical Judgment Rubric, Hollyanne Heaton Springer Dec 2023

Development Of Nursing Clinical Judgment Using Lasater’S Clinical Judgment Rubric, Hollyanne Heaton Springer

Dissertations

Nursing clinical judgment is evident when multiple complex decisions are made quickly resulting in positive patient health outcomes (Lasater, 2007; Tanner, 2006). Patient safety is dependent on effective nursing clinical judgment but this skill has been declining among new graduate nurses, resulting in only 9% demonstrating entry-level competency in 2020 (Kavanagh & Sharpnack, 2021). To mitigate this decline, nurse educators need to develop methods to teach this skill with increased effectiveness. Tanner’s (2006) clinical judgment model described four cognitions of clinical judgment. Lasater’s (2007) clinical judgment rubric (LCJR) was developed to build on this model and provide leveled language in …

Multivariate Hierarchical Generalized Linear Model For Intensive Longitudinal Data With Incorporation Of Outcome Variability As A Predictor, Maryam Skafyan

Dissertations

In classical statistical problems, variability is often considered a nuisance parameter in both the technical and the practical sense. However, emerging evidence suggests that in certain settings, the underlying variability of subject measures may play an equally important role as other covariates in predicting future outcomes of interest. Intensive longitudinal data has become increasingly popular in many scientific applications, providing opportunities to explore the variability of predictors within subjects to address a wide range of research questions. Despite its potential, there remains a dearth of research on models that incorporate variation as a predictor in the mean model. Furthermore, there …

The Effect Of Parceling On The Measurement Invariance Of Us Students’ Trends In International Mathematics And Science Study (Timss) 2015 Math Attitude Scores, Kritika Thapa

Dissertations

Measurement invariance is crucial for making valid comparisons across different groups (Kline, 2016; Vandenberg, 2002). To address the challenges associated with invariance testing such as large sample size requirements, the complexity of the model, etc., applied researchers have incorporated parcels. Parcels have been shown to alleviate skewness, improve reliability, reduce the number of indicators, and produce a more stable solution (Bandalos & Finney, 2001; Matsunaga et al., 2021; Nasser & Takahashi, 2003). Despite these benefits, limited methodological research has been conducted on the effects of parcels on tests of measurement invariance. This dissertation investigated the effects of different total sample …
