Re-Examining The Politics Of U.S. Intervention In Early 20th Century Nicaragua: José Madriz And The Conservative Restoration, Yann Kerevel
Re-Examining The Politics Of U.S. Intervention In Early 20th Century Nicaragua: José Madriz And The Conservative Restoration, Yann Kerevel
Research Papers
This research re-examines the U.S. intervention in Nicaragua in 1909-10. Most literature of this period argues that the United States forced the dictator Zelaya out of office in 1909; however, I contend that the argument that U.S. intervention caused the fall of Zelaya does not clearly match up to the historical record. Instead, I argue it is much more compelling to examine U.S. policy toward José Madriz to understand the impact of the intervention. It is clear that U.S. policy was the decisive factor in the fall of Madriz, while it is less convincing in the case of Zelaya.

Discrete Asymptotic Abstractions Of Hybrid Systems, Chaouki T. Abdallah, Jorge L. Piovesan, Herbert G. Tanner
Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
In this paper we introduce the notion of finite time mode abstraction to relate a hybrid automaton to a timed automaton that preserves the stability and reachability properties of the former. The abstraction procedure discards the continuous dynamics of each mode in the hybrid automaton completely, keeping only the information about the maximum time in which the continuous state makes a discrete jump. This information is used to construct a timed automaton, based on the original hybrid automaton, and to prove that the stability and reachability properties of the original system are retained in the abstract timed automaton. In the …

Sexual Orientation and the Law: A Research Bibliography is a project of the Standing Committee on Lesbian and Gay Issues of the American Association of Law Libraries. This almost-500 page volume includes several features that the Standing Committee hopes will be useful to librarians and their patrons. These include: a description of the bibliography project from its origins in 1987; an introduction by Brad Sears, Executive Director of the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy that places this literature into intellectual, historical and legal perspective; a reprint of the original 1994 bibligraphy as it appeared in Law …
