The Effect Of Training On Referrals To An Outpatient Adolescent Sex Offender Treatment Program, Michael S Lea

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

This study examines the effect of training on referrals to an outpatient adolescent sexual offender treatment program. Fifty-two juvenile court probation officers were trained to assess and identify adolescent sex offenders who met program referral criteria. Pre- and post-training tests were administered to measure the effect of training on a subject's knowledge and understanding of sex offender assessment. Utilizing the Juvenile Sexual Offender Decision Criteria Form (University of Washington, 1986), referrals before and following training were evaluated to determine if they met program criteria. This study investigated the relationship between students' reading levels and their success in a rural community college nursing program. The extent to which reading levels predict success on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) was also examined. This study examined two alternative education programs designed to encourage at-risk students to remain in school. The purpose was to identify the ability of each program to change the school-related attitudes and orientations that may contribute to the student's dropping out of school (school and teacher bonding, academic self-concept, perception of opportunity, self-esteem); In addition to the five dependent variables measured, the number of credits earned as well as the holding power of the program, were examined and compared between the two groups as indication of educational engagement.
