Modeling Mixed Freeway Traffic: Human-Driven And Self-Driven Cars, Xianfeng Terry Yang, Zhao Zhang, Zhehao Zhang Dec 2018

Modeling Mixed Freeway Traffic: Human-Driven And Self-Driven Cars, Xianfeng Terry Yang, Zhao Zhang, Zhehao Zhang

TREC Project Briefs

Connected automated vehicles (CAVs) are typically equipped with communication devices (e.g., dedicated short range communications (DSRC)) and on-board sensors (e.g., Radar, Lidar, Camera, etc.). Communication devices would enable the exchange of real-time information between vehicles and infrastructures via vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) channels. Sensors equipped in vehicles are providing various vehicle sensor data (VSD) such as the CAV’s GPS location, speed and moving direction (trajectory). Existing studies have shown the effectiveness of using CAV trajectories as input in many traffic control models.

However, it can be expected that CAVs and human-driven vehicles (HVs) will co-exist on the transportation network …

TREC Final Reports

Performance-based planning helps local and state decision makers to understand the potential impacts of policy decisions, supporting cost-effective investments and policy choices that can help achieve policy goals. In addition, it can enable monitoring of progress and facilitate needed adjustments, help them communicate to the public, and assist them with meeting federal regulations and the intent of MAP21. The Regional Strategic Planning Model (RSPM) is a performance-based planning tool first developed by Oregon State DOT (as GreenSTEP) and later adapted for use by other states in the form of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Emissions Reduction Policy Analysis Tool (EERPAT) …

Evaluating User Interaction With A Web-Based Group Decision Support System: A Comparison Between Two Clustering Methods, Martin Swobodzinski, Piotr Jankowski Jul 2015

Evaluating User Interaction With A Web-Based Group Decision Support System: A Comparison Between Two Clustering Methods, Martin Swobodzinski, Piotr Jankowski

Geography Faculty Publications and Presentations

Task-Technology Fit theory and the Technology Acceptance Model identify system utilization as an important indicator for the performance of complex software systems. Yet, empirical evaluations of user interaction with group decision support systems are scarce and often methodologically underdeveloped. For this study we employed an exploratory evaluation of user interaction in the context of web-based group decision support systems. Specifically, we used information-rich server logs captured through a web-based platform for participatory transportation planning to identify groups of users with similar use patterns. The groups were derived through multiple sequence alignment and hierarchical cluster analysis based on varying user activity …

Transportation Financing Opportunities For The State Of California, Asha Weinstein Agrawal, Jennifer Dill, Todd Mitchel Goldman, John Hall, Franziska Holtzman, Joe Recker, Eileen Goodwin Oct 2006

Transportation Financing Opportunities For The State Of California, Asha Weinstein Agrawal, Jennifer Dill, Todd Mitchel Goldman, John Hall, Franziska Holtzman, Joe Recker, Eileen Goodwin

Urban Studies and Planning Faculty Publications and Presentations

Significant investments will be required to maintain, operate, upgrade, and expand California's transportation infrastructure if the state is to retain its economic position in the global economy and accommodate a projected near doubling of the current population by 2040. At the same time, available funding for transportation will decline significantly over the next 15 years if the current transportation finance system remains unchanged. This report analyzes a range of alternative sources of revenue, as well as different finance options. The research is based upon reviews of existing literature, interviews with key stakeholders, and two statewide phone surveys. The facility-based sources …

Hosford-Abernethy Bicycle And Pedestrian Connections: An Alternative Routes Analysis Linking Se Clinton Street And The Eastbank Esplanade, Shannon Axtell, Evan Mackenzie, Brady Smith, Allison Wildman Jan 2003

Hosford-Abernethy Bicycle And Pedestrian Connections: An Alternative Routes Analysis Linking Se Clinton Street And The Eastbank Esplanade, Shannon Axtell, Evan Mackenzie, Brady Smith, Allison Wildman

Master of Urban and Regional Planning Workshop Projects

SE Clinton is a popular bicycle route for commuter, utilitarian and recreational bicyclists that fails to provide a safe and direct connection to the Eastbank Esplanade and downtown Portland. Furthermore, residents in the Hosford-Abernethy and Brooklyn neighborhoods do not have a safe bicycle and pedestrian connection to access the Eastbank Esplanade. This gap in the bicycle and pedestrian network must be removed to serve the needs of bicyclists and pedestrians.

This project presents four alternative bicycle and pedestrian routes that connect the Eastbank Esplanade and the SE Clinton bikeway through the Central Eastside Industrial District. Each alternative, with improvements, is …

A Plan For Parks And Recreation In Light Rail Station Communities, Mary Anderson, Heather Coleman, Alan Lehto, Kristina Gifford Mckenzie, Deena Platman, Paul Scarlett Mar 1996

A Plan For Parks And Recreation In Light Rail Station Communities, Mary Anderson, Heather Coleman, Alan Lehto, Kristina Gifford Mckenzie, Deena Platman, Paul Scarlett

Master of Urban and Regional Planning Workshop Projects

This plan proposes new park classifications for THPRD, adding new types of park and recreation facilities appropriate to station communities and adjusting existing classifications to address the needs of a more urban environment. This plan also presents service criteria and design issues that should be considered in siting park and recreation facilities, and elements that should be incorporated into site design. The classifications, service criteria, and design elements were applied to the 170th/Elmonica station area, resulting in a conceptual park and recreation plan for that community, which is also included. Finally, strategies are presented to implement the recommendations contained in …
