Control Of Two Perennial Grasses In Southern Turfgrasses, Ronald Eugene Strahan Jan 2002

Control Of Two Perennial Grasses In Southern Turfgrasses, Ronald Eugene Strahan

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Knotgrass (Paspalum distichum L.) and torpedograss (Panicum repens L.) are perennial grasses that are extremely difficult to remove in established turfgrass. Studies were conducted to determine the potential for controlling these troublesome perennial weeds. Pot studies were conducted for two years to evaluate several herbicides with multiple modes of action for knotgrass control. In graminicides studies, 8 weeks after initial application (WAI) single or split applications of fluazifop or quizalofop provided excellent control (88 to 95%). In contrast, single or split applications of fenoxaprop at 0.21 kg ha-1 and single applications of diclofop at 0.84 kg ha-1 were no better …

Lmx Dyad Agreement: Construct Definition And The Role Of Supervisor/Subordinate Similarity And Communication In Understanding Lmx, Barbara Dale Minsky Jan 2002

Lmx Dyad Agreement: Construct Definition And The Role Of Supervisor/Subordinate Similarity And Communication In Understanding Lmx, Barbara Dale Minsky

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Much LMX research is predicated upon the assumption that the quality of the supervisor-subordinate relationship is predictive of important organizational and individual outcomes. I propose, however, that leader-member agreement in perception about the nature of the relationship as well as the type of relationship itself is important. I have identified and examined some of the theoretically relevant determinants of leader and member perceptual agreement regarding the nature of their LMX relationship. I hypothesized that relational demography, values, perceived similarity, communication, feedback, and role clarity are related to LMX perceptual agreement. Data was collected through surveys personally administered to employees at …

Improvement Of Resonant Harmonic Filter Effectiveness In The Presence Of Distribution Voltage Distortion, Herbert L. Ginn Jan 2002

Improvement Of Resonant Harmonic Filter Effectiveness In The Presence Of Distribution Voltage Distortion, Herbert L. Ginn

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Resonant harmonic filters (RHFs), are the most common devices installed in distribution systems for reducing distortion caused by harmonic generating loads. When such filters are applied in systems with a distorted distribution voltage their effectiveness may decline drastically. This dissertation explores the causes of degradation of RHFs effectiveness and suggests methods of their improvement both by optimization algorithms and by modification of the filter structure. An optimization based design method is developed for the conventional RHF. It takes into consideration the interaction of the filter with the distribution system and provides a filter which gives the maximum effectiveness with respect …
