Purpose of Report

This report was written in response to a request from Habitat for Humanity of McLean County. The report expands upon and updates an affordable homeownership needs assessment for the Bloomington-Normal community – with an emphasis on West Bloomington – that was created in 2004. Because the housing market and economic conditions of the area have changed drastically in the last 6 years, an updated report is necessary.

Data Sources and Methodology

The goal of this paper is to examine the relationship between economic growth and social development. The paper looks at the effect of changes in national income in a country on social development of the citizens. Other factors like democratic characteristics and government stability are also considered at a secondary level. Although the main focus is on annual cross-country data for the period 1996-2006, estimates for shorter subperiods are also considered. The role of income relative to 16 proxies for social development is studied, and simple regression models are estimated through the fixed-effects format and also by using instrumental variables. …

The purpose of this paper is to analyze state versus ethnic identification among residents of Tibati, Cameroon, and to question whether identification suggests the existence of tribalism. This study explores how residents of Tibati who more strongly identify with their ethnic group than the state are more likely to express dissatisfaction with the Cameroonian government, using information collected through informal conversations about the level of satisfaction of Tibatians with regards to both their ethnic group and the Cameroonian government.
