Comparison And Consolidation Of Models Of Personal Epistemologies, Linda Urman, Gene L. Roth
Comparison And Consolidation Of Models Of Personal Epistemologies, Linda Urman, Gene L. Roth
Journal of STEM Teacher Education
Assumptions that students and instructors have about their personal epistemologies have important effects on their expectations and performance in career and technical classrooms and laboratories. Personal epistemologies of career and technical education students influence their behaviors in classes and their interactions with instructors. The conceptual analysis of this research was based on three major theoretical frameworks of personal epistemology: qualitative developmental stages, quantitative belief systems, and practitioner epistemological resources. Seven models of personal epistemologies were compared, and a consolidated conceptual framework is presented to career and technical educators. This new conceptual matrix is intended to provide a roadmap for better …

Exploring A Web-Based Pedagogical Model To Enhance Gis Education, Richard Lisichenko
Exploring A Web-Based Pedagogical Model To Enhance Gis Education, Richard Lisichenko
Journal of STEM Teacher Education
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are defined as: “An integrated collection of computer software and data used to view and manage information about geographic places, analyze spatial relationships, and model spatial processes.” (Wade & Sommer, 2006) Originally, GIS users were comprised primarily of scientists and engineers. In time, hardware and software advancements provided the catalyst for expanded use by the global community. In addition, the continued integration and access to information systems via the Internet and mobile devices has contributed to the success of GIS in society. Aside from commercial training, institutions of higher learning have played a major role in …
Repositioning The Facilities In Technical College Workshops For Efficiency: A Case Study Of North Central Nigeria, Ibrahim Y. Umar, Abdullahi S. Ma'aji
Repositioning The Facilities In Technical College Workshops For Efficiency: A Case Study Of North Central Nigeria, Ibrahim Y. Umar, Abdullahi S. Ma'aji
Journal of STEM Teacher Education
This article focuses on assessing the facilities in Government Technical College workshops in the context of a developing country. A descriptive survey design was adopted. Two research questions and a hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. A 35-item questionnaire was developed based on the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) standards on Technical College workshops, and was validated by three experts. Data was collected from 101 administrators, 140 teachers, and 24 workshop personnel randomly sampled and stratified along trades in 19 Government Technical Colleges in North Central Nigeria. Mean was employed to answer the research questions while one-way analysis …

Community Project Design and Management Reports - Sociology
Purpose of Report
This report was written in response to a request from Habitat for Humanity of McLean County. The report expands upon and updates an affordable homeownership needs assessment for the Bloomington-Normal community – with an emphasis on West Bloomington – that was created in 2004. Because the housing market and economic conditions of the area have changed drastically in the last 6 years, an updated report is necessary.
Data Sources and Methodology
This report uses a combination of primary and, mainly, secondary data sources. Interviews were conducted with representatives of, among others, Bloomington Housing Authority, the Economic Development …

Time Dilation In Relativistic Two-Particle Interactions, B T. Shields, Rainer Grobe, E V. Stefanovich, M R. Ware, Qichang Su, M C. Morris
Faculty publications – Physics
We study the orbits of two interacting particles described by a fully relativistic classical mechanical Hamiltonian. We use two sets of initial conditions. In the first set (dynamics 1) the system's center of mass is at rest. In the second set (dynamics 2) the center of mass evolves with velocity V. If dynamics 1 is observed from a reference frame moving with velocity-V, the principle of relativity requires that all observables must be identical to those of dynamics 2 seen from the laboratory frame. Our numerical simulations demonstrate that kinematic Lorentz space-time transformations fail to transform particle observables between the …

Union Solidarity, Collective Struggle And The Caterpillar Labor Dispute, 1991-1998, Victor G. Devinatz
Union Solidarity, Collective Struggle And The Caterpillar Labor Dispute, 1991-1998, Victor G. Devinatz
Faculty Publications-- Management
The point is not to downplay the importance of union solidarity, which
is, of course, absolutely vital to any successful labor struggle. It is important to acknowledge, however, that union solidarity should not be celebrated merely because of its occurrence. Rather, what must be emphasized are the potential positive benefits that can accrue as a result of workers’ cooperation. This means that when certain types of solidaristic actions fail to bring about the desired goals, they should be abandoned and alternative forms of union solidarity should be implemented, if at all possible.

An Assessment Of The "Diploma In Computer Engineering" Course In The Technical Education System In Nepal, Kul Bahadur Basnet, Jinsoo Kim
Journal of STEM Teacher Education
The purpose of this study was to asses the Diploma in Computer Engineering (DCE) courses offered at affiliated schools of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) with a focus on the goals of the curriculum and employment opportunities. Document analysis, questionnaires, focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather the data. This study analyzed and described current issues and future policy strategies associated with employment opportunities of graduates. The study indicates that there is potentiality for job opportunities in foreign and domestic markets, especially for DCE graduates. The study also reveals that a remarkable number …
Two Approaches To Engineering Design: Observations In Stem Education, Todd R. Kelley, Daniel C. Brenner, Jon T. Pieper
Two Approaches To Engineering Design: Observations In Stem Education, Todd R. Kelley, Daniel C. Brenner, Jon T. Pieper
Journal of STEM Teacher Education
A comparative study was conducted to compare two approaches to engineering design curriculum across different schools (inter-school) and across two curricula Project Lead the Way and Engineering Projects in Community Service (inter-curricula). The researchers collected curricula material including handouts, lesson plans, guides, presentation files, design descriptions, problem statements, and support guides. The researchers conducted observations in the classrooms to collect qualitative indicators of engineering/technology reasoning, collect data on the nature of students’ questions, how students define problems, and operate within the constraints of a design problem. Observational protocol studies were conducted on students participating in Project Lead the Way curriculum …
