The people of Appalachia have less access to healthcare resources subsequently leading to deficits in healthcare, health education, and health research. There is a need to address the communication of healthcare resources among populations with low economic status such as the Appalachian communities in Northeast Tennessee. Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) uniquely challenges the healthcare industry while further dividing communities already experiencing hardship in healthcare resources. The Baby Boomer generation is advancing into the age range frequently affected by ADRD, 65 and over. Competitive Versus Collaborative: Exploring The Negotiation Strategy Impact On Relational Outcomes In Ongoing Buyer-Supplier Relationships, Stephanie Powell Thomas

Negotiations are important interactions in ongoing buyer-supplier relationships. Previous research has identified two commonly utilized types of negotiation strategies that are incorporated into buyer-supplier negotiation encounters. The collaborative strategy seeks to achieve an outcome that is mutually beneficial, while a competitive strategy is focused on individual outcomes. The purpose of this dissertation is to utilize a multi-method research approach to examine the relational impact of negotiation strategies choices. Study One utilized a scenario based experiment methodology. A priori hypotheses were developed based on Social Exchange Theory and its reciprocity tenet. With increasing prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) being diagnosed since its inception, there is reason for significant concern in regards to the cause, treatment, and prognosis of the disorder. This work investigates some of the political, economic and social factors that impact treatment for persons identified with ASD in the context of public education. Utilizing a grounded theory approach to critically analyze current legislation and practices governing special education services in the public school setting, a disturbing picture is revealed of not only how we educate persons labeled as disordered, but also how we respond to them socially.
