The study consisted primarily of an evaluation on the media program in the Ottawa Elementary School District 141 and recommendations for improving this program. A key element in improving the program is the establishment of a district media center.

The study begins with a review of the literature concerning the role of the media in schools, the value of coordinating media programs, and the role played by district media centers.

Twenty four delinquents from Coles County, Ill. and twenty four non-delinquents were given the Social History Questionnaire (Best and Ericksen, 1973). The two groups were matched on age, sex, and self-reported social status. An item analysis was performed and the questions which differentiated between the delinquents and the nondelinquents were identified. A delinquency subscale was then developed from the 54 significant questions.

The Relation Between A Teacher Evaluation Checklist And Actual Student Course Gains, Thomas Michael Ozee

The relationship between student gain, as measured by pre and post achievement test measures, and a teacher evaluation checklist, the Student Evaluation of College Teaching Behaviors Instrument (SECTB), was examined in an attempt to validate the eight factors in the SECTB. Sixty seven students in three sections of introductory psychology were measured on both instruments. Results of this study do not support a relationship between student gain and the SECTB. The only significant correlate of gain was a factor measuring nature of presentation (r = -.468) and this correlation was found in only one section. In this section there was …

Twelve male albino rats were divided into three groups that were exposed to a DRL-18 second schedule of reinforcement. Each group was maintained at 70%, 80%, and 90% ad lib weight respectively during 28 days of acqusition training. The 70% ad lib weight group demonstrated continued superior performance over the other two groups after the 10th day. The 80% and 90% groups evidenced little difference between each other until the 20th day when the 80% group showed slightly better performance. A series of homing experiments using 39 color-marked Bank Swallows (Riparia riparia) were carried out in eastern Illinois during the summer of 1975. The swallow colony was located four km east-northeast of Charleston, Illinois at the Charleston Stone Quarry. Eight release sites were located in the four compass directions from the home colony at distances of 14.4 to 32.3 km away.

The colony was approached before dawn and swallows were captured using tube traps. Birds were color-marked, banded, and taken in individual bags to the release site by automobile. Cloud cover, wind velocity, wind direction, and orientation behavior …

Pesticide Residues In The Illinois Wild Turkey, John M. Bridges

Adipose tissue from 55 turkeys, killed during the 1974 hunting season in southern Illinois, was grouped by age and location of the birds, and the pesticide concentrations in them were determined by gas/liquid chromatography. Twelve different pesticides were identified in the samples with only four, total DDT, heptachlor epoxide, toxaphene, and linuron, being present in all samples. Concentrations ranged from 0.02 ppm to 0.88 ppm.
