Before finalising my position on the new management arrangements for these fisheries I invite any final comments on the proposed arrangements set out in this document. The current status and trends of soil analyses in the coastal catchment of the Peel Harvey estuary were developed from historical soil data (1982 to 1991) combined with a renewed sampling to greater depth (1 m). This report encompasses the data collected from the first year of the project. Soil phosphorus content was found to be high but has dropped slightly since 1991. Soil pH is very low and is likely to be limiting production but have risen slightly since 1991. Soil potassium content is generally so low that it may be limiting production especially to the west of the …

In its discussion paper (Fisheries Management Paper No.198), which was widely distributed and publicised, the Recreational Freshwater Fisheries Stakeholder Sub-Committee (RFFSS) of the Recreational Fishing Advisory Committee (RFAC) put forward a range of proposals for community discussion. These proposals were developed after an assessment of historic catch information and the consideration of scientific advice. The proposals also took into account the outcomes and recommendations of the previous review of the recreational marron fishery that was undertaken in 2002. The discussion paper attracted reasonable comment, with 78 written submissions being received from recreational fishers and other stakeholders. The RFFSS would like …

The review of the Recreational Marron Fishery is now complete and I would like to thank all members of the RFAC Recreational Freshwater Fisheries Stakeholder Sub-Committee (RFFSS) for their efforts in what has been a challenging task. I would also like to thank those members of the community who made submissions on the draft discussion paper. After careful consideration of the Recreational Freshwater Fisheries Stakeholder Sub-Committee’s recommendations and the wide range of issues raised in submissions, I have made my decisions in respect to the future management arrangements for recreational marron fishing.

The Lockhart Catchment is the largest subcatchment of the Avon River Basin covering just over 3.56 million hectares, including 15 Shires running from Quairading and Bruce Rock in the north to Pingrup and Lake King in the south. Two methods are currently used to produce ethanol from grain: wet milling and dry milling. The adjectives ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ describe the method, not the product. The different methods affect both the profitability and logistics. Dry mills produce ethanol, distillers' grain and carbon dioxide (Figure 1). The carbon dioxide is a co-product of the fermentation, and the distillers’ dried grain with solubles (DDGS) is a non-animal based, high protein livestock feed supplement, produced from the distillation and dehydration process. If distillers' grains are not dried, they are referred to as distillers' wet grain (DWG). Wet mill facilities are ‘bio-refineries’ producing …

The FRMA was implemented on 1 October 1995 following widespread public consultation and support from both Houses of Parliament. The Act implemented a number of significant changes to public administration and made certain advances in many areas (e.g. a public register of authorisations). In the ten years of its operation, the FRMA has demonstrated many strengths, however, experience and changes in policy direction have highlighted certain aspects of fisheries management and law that deserve attention and possible amendment.

Semi-leafless field pea like Kaspa have lifted the benchmark set by the previous conventional varieties such as Parafield and Dunwa. Semi-leafless field pea have the same traits as conventional field pea: adaptation to a range of soil types; wide selection of weed control options (including crop topping); nitrogen input; disease break; and reduction in root lesion nematodes. Semi-leafless pea is easier to harvest and is less prone to pod shatter.
