Simultaneous Transitional And Multiplicative Tiling And Wavelet Sets In R2, Eugen J. Ionascu Jan 2006

Simultaneous Transitional And Multiplicative Tiling And Wavelet Sets In R2, Eugen J. Ionascu

Faculty Bibliography

Simultaneous tiling for several different translational sets has been studied rather extensively, particularly in connection with the Steinhaus problem. The study of orthonormal wavelets in recent years, particularly for arbitrary dilation matrices, has led to the study of multiplicative tilings by the powers of a matrix. In this paper we consider the following simultaneous tiling problem: Given a lattice in Z ∈ Rd and a matrix A ∈ GL (d, R), does there exist a measurable set T such that both {T + α : α ∈ L} and {AnT : n ∈ Z} are tilings of Rd? This problem …

Composable M&S Web Services For Net-Centric Applications, Charles D. Turnitsa Jan 2006

Composable M&S Web Services For Net-Centric Applications, Charles D. Turnitsa

Faculty Bibliography

Service-oriented architectures promise easier integration of functionality in the form of web services into operational systems than is the case with interface-driven system-oriented approaches. Although the Extensible Markup Language (XML) enables a new level of interoperability among heterogeneous systems, XML alone does not solve all interoperability problems users contend with when integrating services into operational systems. To manage the basic challenges of service interoperation, we developed the Levels of Conceptual Interoperability Model (LCIM) to enable a layered approach and gradual solution improvements. Furthermore, we developed methods of model-based data engineering (MBDE) for semantically consistent service integration as a first step. …

Developing An Inquiry-Based Physical Science Course For Preservice Elementary Teachers, Zdeslav Hrepic Jan 2006

Developing An Inquiry-Based Physical Science Course For Preservice Elementary Teachers, Zdeslav Hrepic

Faculty Bibliography

Preservice elementary teachers should experience science through inquiry in order to be effective in teaching science. In addition, inquiry as a mode of teaching is mandated by Kansas and National Science Education Standards. As a result of the No Child Left Behind Act, teachers also need to be prepared to include basic skills in reading and mathematics in all instruction. To address these issues, Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is adapting and extending the NSF-developed teacher enhancement materials Operation Primary Physical Science (OPPS) for use in a physical science course for preservice elementary teachers. This paper presents main features of …
