A Gaussian Wavefunction For The Isoelectronic Sequence Of Two-Electron Homonuclear Diatomic Molecules, Stephen Louis Brenner May 1969

A Gaussian Wavefunction For The Isoelectronic Sequence Of Two-Electron Homonuclear Diatomic Molecules, Stephen Louis Brenner

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

The Gaussian wavefunctions recently reported by Kim an d Hirschfelder were found to be in error due t o incorrect formulas for two integrals . The interaction potentials calculated in terms of t he corrected wave-f unctions are found to be in reasonable accord with the exact results of Kolos and Wolniewicz. near the equilibrium separation but in relatively poor accord at moderately large internuclear separations . A scaling of the energy and length to fit the exact curve at its minimum did not ameliorate the situation . For the H2 isoelectronic sequence it was found that scaling the H2 …

Tradition And The Original Talent Of Theodore Roethke, Marylou Lewandowski Jan 1969

Tradition And The Original Talent Of Theodore Roethke, Marylou Lewandowski

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

When I turned to study the modern poets a few years ago, Theodore Roethke's voice rang most clearly and most convincingly. The poet's untimely death in 1963 made his canon complete; by then Roethke had been awarded most of the major poetry prizes offered in this country, and it seemed likely that his status as a “major” poet would demand that close attention be paid to his more difficult poems. Turning to the criticism we find, however, that (with a few significant exceptions) attention to the poems is neglected in favor of arguments about the poet's originality or lack of …

Petrological And Geochemical Study Of Spilites And Associated Dike Rocks From The Virgin Island Core (Caribbean Island Arc), Roger Hékinian Jan 1969

Petrological And Geochemical Study Of Spilites And Associated Dike Rocks From The Virgin Island Core (Caribbean Island Arc), Roger Hékinian

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

A continuous section of extrusive and intrusive rocks have been recovered through a drill core of about 2h30 feet that was taken at St. John, U. S. Virgin Islands. The present study is confined to the upper 1180 feet and comprises a cummulative total of 950 feet of albitized mafic extrusive rocks (spilite). This portion of the core is also intruded by four dikes: two amphibole porphyryes (129-13h and 732-7&2 feet): an albite-diabase (177-226 feet) and an andesine-diabase (8h7-1003 feet).

The spilite is a fine—grained rock with pilotaxitic and intersertal textural features. Throughout the flow, the major mineralogical assemblages consist …
