Defeating Sanctions: The Case Of Libya And Iraq, Daniel Zeytoonian

This thesis investigates the interaction of sender countries (SC) and target countries (TC) in an economic sanctions episode. It conceives of each sanctions event as a game between two free thinking players, out to win, which the international relations theory of Realism best explains. After examining the historical success rates of sanctions cases using large and small N studies in the literature, it seeks to identify those sender vulnerabilities that TCs exploit in order to prevail.

The Impact Of The Turkish-Israeli Rapprochement On Turkey's Relations With Syria And Iraq From The Realist And Constructivist Perspectives, Nibal Ezz El-Din Gamil Attia

Depending on the realist theory does not explain accurately the causes of the Turkish Israeli rapprochement. For instance, this theory neglects the nature of demographic and social formation of states in using this concept to explain alliances. The present study uses the Constructivist approach in studying these causes. Constructivists, argue that understanding how actors develop their interests is important in explaining international political phenomenon. To explain interest formation, they focus on the social identities of individuals or states. Identity, makes some countries more attractive than others.
