An Examination Of The Young Schema Model: Permissive Parenting, Early Maladaptive Schemas, And Procrastination, Wade Lee Kidner

The purpose of this study was to test specific hypotheses based on the Young Schema Model (YSM). In this model, poor parenting and traumatic events early in life result in maladaptive behaviors in adulthood. The present study tests the specific prediction that permissive parenting will have an indirect effect to increase procrastination by way of the intervening variables of entitlement/grandiosity and insufficient self-control/self-discipline cognitive schemas.

Studies have found that the type of parenting a child receives affects his or her subsequent development. This study investigates the relative influence of maternal parenting behavior and the impact of multiple variables influencing the quality of mothers' parenting behaviors. This knowledge will help to understand how early attachment experiences impact future parenting behavior.

Parenting Styles And Parents' Attitudes Toward Learning And Performance In Their Children, Chaoping Violet Wang

The study attempted to show that parenting styles are directly related to parents' goals with respect to their children's education. Parents' goals, and the behaviors they motivate, were assumed to be a mechanism accounting for well-established effects of parenting style on children's school achievement. The sample consisted of 223 undergraduate college mothers enrolled in psychology courses. The results indicated that parents' use of an authoritative style was positively related to their adoption of learning goals with respect to their child, as evident, for example, in their use of a process focus and indirect homework assistance strategies.
