The purpose of this research is to examine how American dairy companies employ language and imagery in brand communications (marketing, advertising, and public relations) to persuade consumers regarding farm animal welfare (FAW) conditions on supplier farms, and to examine how consumers respond in instances in which conditions on supplier farms are shown to be counter to what is depicted in brand communications. In other words, it examines how the dairy industry communicates its FAW-related values and promises to consumers and investigates consumer tolerance for being misled regarding FAW conditions. The purpose of this study is to engage in a systematic inquiry of juvenile delinquency in Texas public schools and respond to the statement made by a member of the Texas Legislature who challenged public school officials to predict delinquency in order to keep students out of the court system. The study is based on the assumption that a profile for juvenile delinquency can be developed using the existing data submitted by Texas public school districts through the Public Education Information. Individuals with mental illness interact with both the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems. Over 50% of inmates in jail and prisons have been diagnosed with mental health problems (James & Glaze, 2006; Al-Rousan, et al. 2017; Wilson & Wood, 2014; Torrey, 1995), while offenders in the juvenile justice system appear to have considerably higher rates of mental illness than those who do not offend (Cashman & Thomas, 2017). In developing an understanding of political participation among historically underrepre-sented groups, a disproportionate number of African Americans receiving punishment (prison sentences) is an issue that warrants consideration when calculating voter turnout. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 protects the voting rights of people regardless of race or ethnicity. The in-creasing incarceration rate of African American men, popularly known as mass incarceration, is a criminal justice phenomenon ongoing since the 1980’s. This research focuses primarily on the relationship between voter turnout, general and more specifically African Americans, and mass incarceration. Participants in this workshop will engage in ensemble building drama activities. These activities will lead to the creation of multiple pieces of drama. The participants will also develop a list of interview questions they can use if they choose to implement the project at their schools or organizations. Many of the activities are from Augusto Boal’s “Theatre of the Oppressed,” a genre of theatre born out of the necessities of people who experience oppression. The materials are mostly Jupyter notebooks which contain a combination of labwork and lecture notes. There are notebooks on Classification, An Introduction to Numpy, and An Introduction to Pandas.

There are also two assessments that could be assigned to students. One is an essay assignment in which students are asked to read and respond to an article on machine bias. In this archive there are two activities/assignments suitable for use in a CS0 or Intro course which uses Python.

In the first activity, students are asked to "fill in the code" in a series of short programs that compute a similarity metric (cosine similarity) for text documents. This involves string tokenization, and frequency counting using Python string methods and datatypes.

Participants will be federal judges who will be recruited via email. In an online survey, participants will be randomly assigned to one of four conditions .
