Sequence Stratigraphy, Distribution And Preservation Of Organic Carbon, And Reservoir Properties Of The Middle Devonian Marcellus Shale, Of The Central Appalachian Basin; Northern West Virginia And Southwestern Pennsylvania, Roy L. Sexton Iv

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

The Middle Devonian Marcellus Shale of the central Appalachian basin is an unconventional resource play with approximate aerial extent of 34,000,000 acres (137,000 km²), and an estimated 84 trillion cubic feet (2.4 trillion m³) of recoverable natural gas and three billion barrels of recoverable natural gas liquids. Advances in drilling and completion technology have enabled economic production of hydrocarbons from the Marcellus. Despite increased exploration and production of the formation, uncertainties remain regarding controls on spatial and stratigraphic variations in reservoir properties such as total organic carbon (TOC), mineralogic composition, and authigenic components. Additionally, there is a lack of understanding …

Student Engagement, Alumni Satisfaction, And Alumni Donations At A Public Four Year Institution: An Analysis Of How The Undergraduate Experience Influences Alumni Donations, Vanessa L. Drew-Branch May 2011

Student Engagement, Alumni Satisfaction, And Alumni Donations At A Public Four Year Institution: An Analysis Of How The Undergraduate Experience Influences Alumni Donations, Vanessa L. Drew-Branch

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

This dissertation study examined the relationships between undergraduate student engagement, alumni satisfaction and alumni willingness to make donations of time and/or money. The research site was an Eastern, public, Master's Colleges and Universities and was considered a larger institution. The Student Engagement and Alumni Satisfaction Assessment (SEASA) was developed for this research study, was electronically delivered to alumni via the college's alumni development office. There were 847 alumni responses. The findings in this study show that there is a statistically significant relationship between student engagement and alumni satisfaction. There is also a significant relationship between alumni satisfaction and alumni willingness …

Optimization Of Operating Parameters For Minimum Mechanical Specific Energy In Drilling, Todd Robert Hamrick May 2011

Optimization Of Operating Parameters For Minimum Mechanical Specific Energy In Drilling, Todd Robert Hamrick

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Efficiency in drilling is measured by Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE). MSE is the measure of the amount of energy input required to remove a unit volume of rock, expressed in units of energy input divided by volume removed. It can be expressed mathematically in terms of controllable parameters; Weight on Bit, Torque, Rate of Penetration, and RPM. It is well documented that minimizing MSE by optimizing controllable factors results in maximum Rate of Penetration. Current methods for computing MSE make it possible to minimize MSE in the field only through a trial-and-error process. This work makes it possible to compute …

Art Educators And Practicing Artists: Strengthening The Curriculum And Building A Creative Community, John Christopher Williams May 2011

Art Educators And Practicing Artists: Strengthening The Curriculum And Building A Creative Community, John Christopher Williams

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

An artist residency consists of a visiting artist (dance, musical, theatrical, or visual) creating work in and teaching their craft to an audience of participants. Artist residencies take place in a variety of settings, in public and private schools, after-school programs, in day care and preschool programs, community centers, and adult recreational and care facilities. Over time in a school setting artist residencies have evolved to include school curriculum, input and collaboration from the host teacher. I believe artist residences could become a catalyst for school curriculum change to focus on the arts. Arts integrated residencies and curriculum can impact …

Role Of Lineaments In The Hydrogeology Of Knobly Mountain, Mineral And Grant Counties, West Virginia, Kevin P. Rega May 2011

Role Of Lineaments In The Hydrogeology Of Knobly Mountain, Mineral And Grant Counties, West Virginia, Kevin P. Rega

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

An investigation of groundwater discharge and lineaments is presented for Knobly Mountain in Mineral and Grant counties, West Virginia. Wells, springs, and streams were mapped and characterized. Lineaments mapped using digital elevation model hillshades and 1:24,000 topographic maps were classified by region (north, central, and south), orientation, length, density, location, and distance from nearest springs and streams. Lineaments exhibit bimodal orientation perpendicular (mean = 113.1° to 122.2°) and parallel (mean = 14.7° to 32.3°) to strike and are strongly correlated with springs and stream locations; every stream was located along a lineament. Lineament density is higher in the northern part …
