Disproportionality In Special Education: Current Data And Recommendations, Jasolyn L. Henderson, Paula Freer

This presentation will focus on disproportionality in special education in Georgia over the last five years. We will describe what disproportionality is, how it is calculated, and the State Education Agency (SEA) and Local Education Agency (LEA) statutory requirements related to disproportionality determinations. In addition, disproportionality trend data over the last five years will be discussed. The presentation will also describe the initiatives that the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) is implementing to help reduce disproportionality across the state.

Technology has provided unlimited potential for language learning. In this session four presenters will share their experience in creating an Elementary Italian Blended Course. We will share recent and innovative pedagogical, methodological and technological approaches. Participants will learn how to build a Blended Course and how to develop material to provide students with tailor-made resources to review, practice, and consolidate the instruction they receive in class. Functional Behavioral Assessments are generally considered to be a problem-solving process for addressing student problem behavior. FBAs rely on a variety of techniques and strategies to identify the purposes of specific behavior that help IEP teams select interventions that directly address the problem behavior. A functional behavioral assessment looks beyond student behavior itself. The focus when conducting a functional behavioral assessment is to identify significant, pupil-specific social/emotional, affective, cognitive, and/or environmental factors associated with the occurrence (and non-occurrence) of specific behaviors.
