Background/Significance: Delirium is an acute confusional state that is common among hospitalized elderly and is associated with poor outcomes. This syndrome requires prompt recognition and evaluation as the underlying medical condition may be life threatening. The diagnosis of delirium is made clinically and is often under-recognized.

“Acute Care for the Elders (ACE) Tracker” is an innovative automated checklist that is generated from the electronic medical record (EMR). Neonatal circumcision is one of the most common procedures performed by family physicians and is a recommended procedure for resident training. Few models or simulators exist. A model of neonatal genitalia was constructed using a cocktail wiener covered by a surgical glove finger. A competency checklist was used to review the steps of the procedure. Posttest/pretest-posttest assessment found significant improvement in knowledge and comfort in three groups of learners. Ninety percent of participants were deemed competent in all 15 areas of the checklist. The easily replicable model was felt to reasonably model the neonatal genitalia for circumcision training.

Introduction

To describe a case of rapidly eroded laparoscopic placed non-sutured gastric band secondary to Mycobacterium chelonae.

Presentation of case

A 65 year old male, who had undergone laparoscopic gastric banding two months prior for morbid obesity, presented to the clinic complaining of abdominal pain and night time fever of 4 days duration. Urgent gastroscopy revealed eroded gastric band which was removed laparoscopically.

Discussion

M. chelonae are not uncommon in Queensland. Although the mode of acquisition of infection remains unclear, it is suspected that human disease results from environmental exposure to dirty soil and water. The patient lives in rural …

Despite the International Labour Organization's (ILO) significance for much of the twentieth century, little has been written on its early history. This case study examines the thin tightrope that the ILO had to walk in balancing the needs and demands of government, employers and labor related to the ILO's Convention No. 13 (1921), "White Lead in Painting.' Great Britain was a leading producer of the pigment white lead prior to the First World War. A government investigation was published in 1915, but measures were shelved during the War. With the peace, the focus of activity shifted to the ILO.

A purposive community sample of 137 volunteers drawn from six key stakeholder groups were invited to participate in focus groups and semi-structured individual interviews to elicit their perceptions on the employment barriers and support needs of people living with psychosis. The authors interviewed 17 middle school reading and language arts teachers as part of a larger study on an evidence-based intervention called Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR). CSR is a multi-component reading instructional model combined with cooperative grouping and peer discussion. We show from the teacher interviews that CSR has benefits for all middle school students, especially those historically at risk for school failure, including English Language Learners, struggling learners, and students designated with a special education label.
