Equity In Accessibility, A Case Study Of City Of Sacramento, Meredith C. Milam
City and Regional Planning
This paper is a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) spatial analysis of the transportation accessibility and equity in Sacramento, California. A literature review examines discriminatory regulatory policies in the 1900s that wrote racial segregation into law. The effects of these policies have lasting effects on spatial dispersal of people and create barriers to accessibility and therefore result in inequitable transportation systems. The accessibility and equity analysis in Sacramento explores demographic data, job concentration and available modes of transportation, and commuter data. The results of the analysis suggest that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach when it comes to measuring accessibility and equity. …

Tuesday was April 20, or 4/20, so here’s a friendly reminder in light of the holiday; Barack Obama smoked marijuana, and he isn’t a degenerate, he was the 44thpresident of the United States. Marijuana has been legalized in 16 states as well as Washington, D.C., and there are numerous studies showing that marijuana is, at thevery least, just as safe as alcohol. So why are over 40,000 Americans still incarcerated for marijuana-related charges?

Periodically, newspaper or magazine articles appear proclaiming amazement at how white the population of Oregon and the City of Portland is compared to other parts of the country. It is not possible to argue with the figures—in 2017, there were an estimated 91,000 Blacks in Oregon, about 2 percent of the population—but it is a profound mistake to think that these stories and statistics tell the story of the state's racial past. In fact, issues of race and the status and circumstances of Black life in Oregon are central to understanding the history of the state, and perhaps its future …

Oswald Research and Creativity Competition
The purpose of this research project, prompted by the Office for Institutional Diversity, was to comprehensively collect the first draft of the history of Latino students at the University of Kentucky from 1865 through 2019. Digital and physical archival research, participant observation, and interviews were conducted in the process of understanding and analyzing the evolution of this historically underserved community. The extensive implications of this collection will serve as a formalized foundation that will further indicate the changing needs of the Latino community on campus. Maine Rural Development Council (MRDC), an affiliated program of University of Maine Cooperative Extension, will host a Wabanaki Cultural Awareness Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999 at the Sockalexis Arena on Indian Island. Expected to attend the event are some 100 representatives of Maine's 20 federal and state agencies that provide services and/or resources to Maine's tribal communities. A group of statelegislators will also attend the conference.

The University of Maine, the Penobscot Tribal Court and the Bangor Court system are joining together to offer an alternative to traditional punitive sentences. The Changing Lives Through Literature program will offer aseries of eight weekly meetings at the Honors Center on the UMaine campus. This will be the first time that the two court systems have collaborated.
