The chapter evaluates the role of strategic HRM for a firm's efficiency as well as effectiveness of nearly 3000 European enterprises (using Cranet 2001 data). A sound positive effect of the strategic orientation of management, including high variety of HRM practices, on efficiency and effectiveness of enterprises in the market sector was found in majority of dynamic European environments (especially in Scandinavia), except in Mediterranean countries and Slovenia.

In 2006, NATO is operating well out of area and conducting missions beyond the collective defense limits of its founding Treaty. NATO increasingly supports humanitarian relief operations, while also engaged in Afghanistan, the Mediterranean, and African crisis spots.

These changes provide the reason to examine the thesis: only if NATO is able to effectively transform will it be able to continue in its role as the primary European security institution. This paper reports on the transport of ozone (O₃) and related species over the North Atlantic ocean and its impact on Europe. Measurements of nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and carbon monoxide (CO) columns from the GOME and MOPITT satellite instruments, respectively, are used in conjunction with the GEOS-CHEM global model of transport and tropospheric chemistry to identify the major events of long range transport that reach Europe over the course of summer 2000. Past research, with its emphasis on affective regulatory processes, has failed to find cross-cultural differences in counterfactual thoughts. In the current study, the authors examine the tendency to generate additive counterfactuals (those that focus on the addition of new aspects that were not in fact present) and subtractive counterfactuals (those that focus on subtraction of factual aspects) among Mainland Chinese and European American university students in five life domains: schoolwork, romantic relationships, family relationships, friendships, and life in general. As in previous studies, the authors find an overall main effect, in which additive counterfactuals predominate over subtractive counterfactuals within both …
