Sexuality Counseling For Male-Oriented Men, Daniel W. Fulmer
Theses
This paper discusses conceptual and experiential aspects of helping male homosexuals who have problems in achieving pleasurable and satisfying sexual experiences . New helping modalities, particularly those of Masters and Johnson , are explored in the context of a case study of a single 28 year old male who was able during the course of the counseling relationship to attain greater sexual pleasure and emotional satisfaction both by himself and with a partner by breaking out of a pattern of unfulfilling masturbation . The conclusion reached is that non-analytical approaches used successfully by "new sex therapists " with committed heterosexual …

Employment Qualifications For Community Service Agencies And Organizations In Midland And Odessa, Susan Garfield Edwards
Graduate Theses
The terms "social work," "casework," and "counseling" signify similar but separate professions, occupations, and techniques. Their places within the spectrum of community or helping services are clarified by a discussion of relevant literature. Based on these perspectives, a survey of 104 local helping service agencies and organizations was under taken to establish employment qualifications (educational, experiential, professional) for the helping professions. Follow-up was done in 10 situations where Master's Degrees in Social Work, Counseling, and Psychology were required for employment—to determine the particular value of the degree for the specific position. Indications from this study are: that, most positions available …

The Client-Centered Counselor In The Pastoral Setting, Joseph Roland Armshaw
The Client-Centered Counselor In The Pastoral Setting, Joseph Roland Armshaw
Graduate Theses
A role conflict exists for the priest in the contemporary Catholic church. He must act as an official minister of an authoritarian church in his spiritual role and at the same time as a counselor that meets the needs of his parishioners in his secular role. Therefore, "How authoritarian must he be?" and "How per missive can he be?" It is proposed in this study that the modern Catholic priest can find an answer to this dilemma when he applies Rogers' client-centered counseling theory to his pastoral role. Rogers' theory is based on the dignity, worth, and trustworthiness of the …

Dissertations and Theses
This is a report of a descriptive study in which a random sample of fifty out of four hundred returned questionnaires from parents with a mentally retarded child were analyzed. Non-Contingent Reinforcement In A Counseling Like Situation, Robert B. Shelton Jr.
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this study was to determine if a variable, non-contingent reinforcement, could account for a significant amount of the effect of psychotherapy. A sample of ninety subjects was drawn from basic psychology classes and randomly assigned to six groups in a variation of the Soloman 4-group design. The treatment groups were connected to sham GSR equipment and told that when a light flashed they had made an anxiety reducing statement and were becoming more mentally healthy. The subjects were given three by five cards upon which were typed positive-negative adjective pairs and told to use the cards as …

Role Of Goal Assessment In Evaluating The Counseling Relationship, Dennis R. Whitney
Role Of Goal Assessment In Evaluating The Counseling Relationship, Dennis R. Whitney
All Master's Theses
The primary function of diagnosis in counseling is to enable the counselor to make predictions about behavior from which he in turn constructs his plans for handling the case (Callis, 1965). The writer assumed that all counselors engage in the process of diagnosis whether they do it purposefully and systematically, or implicitly, perhaps with very little awareness. If all counselors engage in diagnosis, then the accuracy of the counselor's predictions, based upon his evaluation of the client's goals is an important determinant in the way he handles the case and presumably affects the outcome of the counseling process. It seems, …

The Relationship Between Beards And The Self Concept, Walter H. Nelson
The Relationship Between Beards And The Self Concept, Walter H. Nelson
All Master's Theses
This research investigated possible differences between the individual self concepts of bearded and non-bearded college men. Two groups of college men, 50 bearded (B) and 50 non-bearded (NB), were randomly selected, interviewed, and given the Tennessee Self Concept Scale (TSCS). Subjects were placed into appropriate categories by judges when they were present during testing times, and by the researcher when they were not. No significant differences in the self concepts existed between groups. These results may reflect what may be expected from other groups or college men.

Factors Related To First Year College Success In A Selected Group Of Scholarship Recipients, Laverl C. Giles
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The idea of a scholarship program is almost as old as the oldest institution of higher learning. The universality of such a program is almost completely comprehensive throughout the world. Although the purpose of scholarship programs has varied as much as each of the institutions varies, in most of the situations the programs have been well acclaimed. The success of these programs in terms of the student has often been tested or at least scrutinized. This type of study has been attempted several times. However, both Harris (11) and Endler (7), in reviewing the literature from 1931 to 1959, report …
The Supervision Of The Guidance Program In A Small High School, John H. Clark
The Supervision Of The Guidance Program In A Small High School, John H. Clark
All Graduate Projects
The small high school has some problems to overcome in order to do an effective job in the guidance of its young people. It is difficult for the staff to find time for guidance activities in the busy schedule of today's curriculum. Released time is very necessary if effective counseling is to be done.
Another problan to be faced is the lack of trained personnel to head the guidance program. The high school principal must find a capable person or else head the program himself.
A third problem faced by the small high school is that of maintaining adequate records …
An Evaluation Of Non-Directive Counseling In The Treatment Of Delinquents, George D. Watt
An Evaluation Of Non-Directive Counseling In The Treatment Of Delinquents, George D. Watt
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
It was the purpose of this study to make application of Carl H. Rogers' non-directive method of psychotherapy in the treatment of juvenile delinquents. The study was set up in an effort to determine the value of such a treatment procedure as one method of treating this type of individual.
The hypothesis to be tested was that non-directive psychotherapy would improve the personal and social adjustment of institutionalized delinquents. Supporting this general assumption the following three corollaries were assumed: (1) that improved personal adjustment would be reflected in adjustment inventories, (2) that improved social behavior would be reflected in social …
